Yeah Verizon! you've made a fan out of me. I ordered the mobile office kit for Kyocera 2235, to find out the software (CD) for mobile office was not burned properly. I went to the verizon store and they gave me a new one. Then after I come home and install the software, and spending about close to an hour for tech support to figure out the USB cable that connects to my laptop and cellphone is defective as well. Called Verizon Online Order dept. They told me that I had to send the item back to kyocera for repair or if I had purchased it within the past 14 days I can send it back to them. Hassle taken care of, I went to the verizon store and exchanged EVERYTHING. Come home saturday night, call verizon sign up for express network. Unlimited for $99.00. The rep tells me that i have to change calling plans to something like 900 minutes for $60.00 and pay extra $5.00 for weekend minutes. I was told that night minutes were not given with the XN offer. What the hell, I signed up anyhow. Waited 8 hours for access to become available still nothing. I called Verizon sunday, first, I was told that my plan was not switched over to an express network plan therefore that's why acess was available for me. After explaining I had contacted them about 8 hours ago and signed up for the plan they refused to give me the name of rep that made the account notations during my previous call. Well your problem is our problem, sir, we will make sure everything is taken care of for you today......blah, blah, blah. I asked the rep about why my local choice calling plan...the 1000 minutes for $55.00 with unlimited night and weekend minutes was not available with the unlimited $99. express network plan. I was told that the plan minutes were different. I argued with her that the website stated the unlimited $99. plan can be used in conjunction with voice calling plans that are already in effect. She came back, I'm sorry sir, you're right. I was just told that you can keep your local calling voice plan and add Express network unlimited for $99. a month more. Okay, so I added it. Now taken care of....i'm happy. Log in to the network...... 31k connection speed. So much for express network. LOL =o) Called mobile office techsupport, well we forgot to tell you that you need to enter an initialization string into some phone property, that kyocera has made us aware of if not you're phone will not connect at high speeds.....blah, blah, blah. all crap. Initialization string entered...............still 31k. Tech support doesn't know what's up and it's not my laptop, I have full bars of service, digital. The laptop i'm running on is a Compaq, 1.2 ghz, athlon, 30gb drive, etc. less than a year old. Now, I'm a phone call away from cancelling Express Network. Let me know if anyone get's faster connection speeds or has had similar problems, input is appreciated. Thanks..... |

Voicestream averages 40kbps through your phone, and up to 100k with their Wireless PCMIA II Card. Voicestream will begin work on their EDGE network at the end of this year, which will put you at higher speeds than Verizon's Express Network. Get Voicestream and GET MORE from Life |

I connect at 57.6 through my desktop. I don't use this connection on my desktop because I have a Broadband Cable Modem, but I just wanted to test it out, and I connected at "57.6" kbps.

Anonymous, Verizon doesn't use WCDMA. They will never use WCDMA. WCDMA is a GSM goal.

I checked the Express Network map, there is a hole in the LA area, and that could be where you are. It's really hard to tell on that Express Network map since the socal area is only an inch on my screen. Check it out. Voicestream does NOT cover your city. When they come in as T-Mobile soon they will share towers with Cingular....so with 2 networks and one tower, I fear the data speeds would suck (even with the extra Bandwith T-Mobile brings). I'd go to your local VZW store and ask them, I'd think it'd go faster than 31k. My local store is always great, so good luck to you! For some reason VZW brings out all their new stuff here first (DE), guess cause we are small and near their hometown, VZW is excellent here.

| << They will cover his city with Cingular in the launch in July (July 15th or something). >> The only problem with this is, you say, "launch". Well, if it's launching then coverage isn't going to be that great for awhile. I mean they're expanding but when Cingular goes into a new area, or anyone for that matter, you have to expect delays and glitches, overloaded switches and spotty coverage, so one needs to be patient when someone launches a new area. Take advantage of the great rate plans but keep your expectations reasonable. |

I know what you mean dakman, all of Voicestream's launches have been successful. They haven't had any problems.

Why wait for VS, when he can get Cingular, (vice versa in NYC), let's try to help him with Verizon first, this is not a dealer board, is it? Sometimes it feels like some people just want to convert others (in some cases it is a good idea, most it's not)

This thread has gone way off topic. If no one has anything to say related to the topic then please don't use it as another opportunity to spout that 'my carrier is better than yours' kind of stuff. G. |
