Hello. I went back to Sprint PCS today and the plan I believe it's a nation-state wide plan. You get 1000 LOCAL anytime 3000 LOCAL nights and weekends. The plans is only when you sign up with a 1 year contract. If your in the stockton region 97.7 has the sprint commercial. FMSprint is giving away free phones when you sign up the TP-100 and some other phone; I don't remeber the name. Does anyone know if Sprint is good in Stockton? And is ATT or VERIzon is better in just Stockton? Verizon got a 700 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends for $45.

I live in Ohio so I could not comment on the coverage. When you commented that you were at the sprint store in stocton California I decided that just for the heck of it I would call and find out some of the details. From what I was told over the plan is as follows

$39.99 a month gets you 1000 anytime minutes and 3000 night and weekend minutes that can be used all over the us. (Just like all of sprint pcs plans) the thing with this plan is that it DOES NOT include free long distance, they would charge you 20 cents a minute if you called out of their local (I think that it was 3) area code region

The phone that the gentleman that I spoke with told me about was the lg4ne1.

Commenting on the phone- I heard that it is a ok phone but does not pick up a signal like the others. I would take this phone and wait for sprints new line of phones comming out in a few months before paying money for a phone

Sprint service in Stockton, CA is provided by an affiliate called Ubiquitel PCS (formerly Via Wireless).

He told me that you could travel anywhere on the sprint pcs nationwide network and not get charged for roaming only LD. Since they are a affiliate I would be sure to look into this in more detail

Also check the model # of the TP I am not familiar with that model # (if it is what I am thinking about then that is a old model

No roaming charges ever apply in Sprint affiliate areas. You wouldn't even know you were on an affiliate since your phone will still read "Sprint PCS".

Sorry. The phone was the Sprint PCS LG 1010 I think. Does anyone know where I can find a map for verizon their coverage area for the central valley, not the coverage area that their phone network, but the area wihtout the roaming. Just strictly the free non-roaming area in the central valley.

I'm not sure if I understood the question about the Verizon plans and thier roaming. With verizon, basically if you choose a national, regional or local plan with them, if your phone works in the areas that you are "authorized" for service, then you won't be charged anything extra. The complicated part comes in when you are looking at thier america's choice plans. Then you might be looking at areas that are not covered by this plan. However, I have heard that if you are on the latter mentioned america's choice plans, the phone will tell you if you are on the towers that are considered roaming and you will get charged for....hopefully that was clear as mud for you.

OR--you can just go with sprint and then when your phone works and it has the big fat "D" for digital, you can call and not have to worry about roaming at all!!!

With Sprint you will not be charged roaming fees as long as your phone reads 'Sprint PCS' and not analog roam.

Sorry for being pesky again. But is the promotional map on this webpage http://www.verizonwireless.com/ics/p...=PLANS_PRICING (sorry I can't link its a java scrip). Does the map mean that I can call from areas from northern california and nevada without roaming? Or is that just the service area where my phone works? If so does anyone know where to find their map that just covers my area without the roaming areas? I travel somewhat a lot and I would like to see where I don't get charged for roaming because they will add up to a lot. Thanks

Let's try to conclude this discussion by saying that you are going to probabally be able to use a Verizon phone wherever you go and not have to deal with the roaming charges. The only way (that I know of) to find out if you are going to be able to have service in the area is to go to a Verizon store and ask them if the area is covered. THey have maps that will show you very detailed coverage on thier computers. If you are going with Sprint, I have a database that will tell you zipcode details on whether an area is covered totally, partially, or not at all. Jack said it best that if you are travelling in areas that are busy and frequented highly, then you should have good solid coverage--I use this phrase lightly :-)

Thanks for all the input guys! I was attracted to sprint at first because I though they would not have a contract like many others. But with this promotion the contract is drawing me away to either Verizon or ATT because they have free nights and weekends and long distance is free also. Thanks once again.

I find Sprint plans for NYC are ridiculous. Why give almost 5000 off-peak minutes and only 600 peak time for $55. Some plans give you over 6000 off-peak minutes. Why not say unlimited? Are they just trying to impress people? Who in their right mind will have time to use 6000 off-peak minutes in a month? Unless you work 3rd shift and run a sex line over your cell phone! Like the Voicestream girl says "I am not a bat. I don't sleep upside down.."

They were already investigated for misleading advertising. I am saying this because at first glance 4000 minutes for $39.99/month sounds much better than saying 500 minutes for $39.99/month with UNLIMITED nights & weekends. But in reality a 500 minute plan is much better because the 4000 minute plan gives you only 350 peak minutes and the rest are off-peak. Most people can only take advantage of off-peak packages for about 3 hours per night because they have to sleep. Although the weekend is for the entire day.

By the way, how much does that Sprint 1000 + 3000 minutes cost and where? That makes much more sense to me.

^^ That'd be great if someone didn't travel. Better coverage and service than say Cricket. But for traveling those 1000 minutes don't mean crap if you have to pay the 20 cent LD charge. Say you went traveling, and used 200 minutes for that week, that would be 40$ making that plan suck!

The calls would be long distance only if they were to a # outside of the local calling area you are in. Most local calling areas these days seems to be pretty big.
