Thought I'd share with all of you Voicestream will be having a week long training conference starting Monday, June 10th, in Anaheim. There will be two seminars each day, and those who are participating are only required to go to one session. They're offering so many to accomodate everyone. As far as launch dates and etc, nothing really concrete. They are planning to have a "swarm" day sometime at the end of June where trucks will be sent out to each of the "premier" dealers (stores Voicestream will be working with) with loads of merchandising displays, signs and literature. I've been told they want to launch their ad campagn in unison with the store merchandising, so customers won't hear about the product and not be able to check it out for themselves. They're really going all-out with this launch, and they're touting it as one of the bigger wireless service launches in recent memory. Another thing, which I thought was interesting.....I was told that they'll be known as T Mobile in California.....more than the Voicestream name, they want the T-Mobile name to be known here. At this point, anything can happen....they have more competition here than any other market, so even price plan changes, like including Nights & Weekends, not just weekends (which is really popular in Cali), is not completely ruled out. I guess we'll see what happens. Peace!~ |

Well Nitewing911, I don't know if you knew this or not, but Voicestream is changing their name across the whole nation to T-Mobile, they have just decided to start with their new markets. That is pretty smart, instead of launching with Voicestream Wireless, and then in a couple of months changing to T-Mobile. Launching with one title and staying with it, shows high company stability to those who don't really know what is happening or why it changed. That is what a lot of bigger companies look at when choosing a provider, when they are just getting a little outside visual of the wireless providers, before they go into great research. UNLIMITED Nights are currently being tested out in Chicago & Milwaukee for $5.00. |

I have to wonder how well TMobile will even do here. The California market has 16 cellular carries as it is, and cellular sales and subscribers are down, in fact, they are predicted to go even lower than before. Just as an example, I was down at the Santa Rosa Plaza south of me in Santa Rosa, CA the other day, and saw AT&T Wireless's brand new store, with "grand opening" allover the place. Want to know how many people were in there? None. In contrast, the mall was very busy. I was in Costco in Santa Rosa later in the day, and the Sprint PCS kiosk(before it was Cingular in there)is completely gone, no cellular at all anymore in that Costco(which, by the way, is the third highest grossing Costco in the world)I have looked at Voicestream/Tmobile, and I just don't seem them bringing anything new or exciting to the California market. I think they will have a long stuggle ahead, it's cuthroat market right now.

I've seen the T-Mobile name before but where did it come from? Is this an umbrella company or is this a merge with Voicestream? Which one was first Voicestream or T-Mobile?

VoiceStream: Deutsche Telekom gets more The World’s Largest Mobile Phone Market When Deutsche Telekom completed its acquisition of VoiceStream – the largest GSM carrier in North America – it gained a foothold in the largest telecommunications market in the world. That's a huge competitive advantage for T-Mobile because GSM is the world’s leading standard for mobile communications. More than 70 percent of all digital mobile communications customers in over 160 countries use GSM for making mobile calls, SMS messages and transmission of other data. In addition, Deutsche Telekom’s position in the North American telecommunications market was strengthened when VoiceStream become the first and only carrier to launch a nationwide GPRS wireless data service. With the WorldClass tariff, customers benefit not just from seamless voice service across T-Mobile countries, but seamless GPRS roaming for customers in the U.S., Germany, Austria, U.K., and the Czech Republic. Hundreds of thousands of new customers VoiceStream continues to prove itself a smart investment. Here are some key facts: has more than 7.5 million customers at the end of March this year, including 1.5 million subscribers added in less than a year by the end March 2002. achieved positive cash flow for the first time (in the first quarter of 2002) reduced subscriber acquisition costs and leveraged global purchasing power; e.g.. through a Company-wide procurement program, Deutsche Telekom saved over $500 million in 2001 New businesses T-Mobile and VoiceStream have made new deals which offer bright prospects for growth in both the consumer and business segments in the United States. In January this year, VoiceStream acquired Mobile Star Network Corp. and now provides 802.11b wireless broadband service in 650 hot spots across the United States in public locations such as select Starbucks coffeehouses, airports, hotels and convention centers under the name T-Mobile Wireless Broadband. That's a smart buy, as more than 19 million mobile and remote workers will regularly use public wireless, local networks by 2006, according to research by the Gartner Dataquest research firm. A hotspot is a wireless access point to the internet. With wireless broadband technology, all subscribers within several square meters of a hotspot can surf the internet without plugging cables into an outlet. A few months before, VoiceStream gained access to the California and Nevada markets, which contain two of the top ten markets in the United States – Los Angeles and San Francisco – in a unique network sharing agreement with Cingular Wireless. Altogether, VoiceStream and its affiliates own licenses covering areas to provide service to a population of 270 million people or 96 percent of the US population. T-Mobile USA/Looking Ahead Because the mobile telecommunications market is rapidly becoming a global marketplace, T-Mobile International, as the number one mobile telecommunications service provider worldwide, is re-branding subsidiaries. On April 18th, T-Mobile One2One was renamed T-Mobile UK, max.mobil in Austria became T-Mobile Austria and the Paegas brand of RadioMobil was rebranded T-Mobile Czech Republic. VoiceStream will be rebranded T-Mobile USA. Dr. Ron Sommer, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, commended VoiceStream for its role in Deutsche Telekom’s success, "Deutsche Telekom will fulfill its strategic objectives through the combined success of VoiceStream and the other members of the T-Mobile International family, as well as the performance of our other growth pillars –our fixed line T-Com business , T-Online, a leading internet provider, and T-Systems, the second-largest solutions provider in Europe. Wow, T-Mobile deserves to be #1. They are involved in just about every area of Telecommunications. I wished they could take the place of SBC-Ameritech, in servicing my home telecommunication needs, like my phone-line and DSL. I decided not to go with Ameritech DSL, because the Cable Modem is faster for the money. I get up to a MBps. I was limited to 768kbps from Ameritech. Hey you never know, we may one day see T-Mobile servicing residential communication needs, such as; telephone lines, and broadband. |
