My 14 days on sprint expire tomorrow and I am moving to monterey next week and working in Carmel. So, Sprint is part of the way there and verizon is all the way there. I am attached to my Samsung A400 (featured in the new MiB movie- Yo!). Would it be a better bet to go with Verizon since FREE (is it really free?) romaing in icluded? Plus they have 700 minutes for 45$ also with free WAP.- but those "can you here me now" commercials are about the most annoying things out there right now muy gracias, S |

Verizon would be better. Sprint has some coverage in those areas but just started up so there will be dead spots for at least another year while they try to place additional antennas.

Though I know you didn't inquire about it, just as a general statement for anyone using cell service in the Monterey and Camel areas: My wife and I go there about twice a year. (Actually, we first head to Big Sur for breakfast at a little place called Deetjen's Big Sur Inn. We then head further south to a park and by late morning/early afternoon make a quick stop in Carmel and then spend the rest of the day at Moneterey Bay vicinity. We have full coverage with out ATT Wireless service in Carmel and Monterey, but there is NO coverage on highway 1 below Carmel. |

Does anybody have coverage south of there? I would think somebody must have coverage in Big Sur and Lucia. It's a long ways between Carmel and San Simeon.

I've checked all the carriers' websites several times in the past and noted that the coast is not covered. I wonder if it has something to do with national preservation?

Kevin, I believe to get towers approved along that stretch the carriers would have to get approval by the CA Costal Commission which probably has prohibited it. They do allow towers in some regions along the coast but not all. |

Ya, we'll probably not get much coverage in areas considered as national beauty spots until they finally invent cloaking devices that can make towers transparent. (Dang, there's never a Romulan Ship around when you need one.)

I believe Sprint tried to get three sites approved last year along the coast near Santa Cruz. They were to be disguised as a tree, windmill, and a boulder but two out of three of them were shot down.

I guess it depends on type of windmill. If you're talking about these that I pass every morning & evening, they ARE an eyesore.

My folks live in Fresno and have a home inCarmel by the sea. My dad has ATT and my mom has verizon. I have better luck calling her on that. i also have verizon and it works well up the rough that vicinity.

Kind of off the subject, but refering to the Verizon commercials; In my area, when I talk to people who are talking on Verizon phones, the question is always "can you hear me," and the answer is always no. The Verizon call clarity is awful in my area, and AT&T has always been everything but clear. I can never hear them. |

Alltel is pretty good in your area. I have been up there roaming and was happy Jack
