Wayne, The mother ship has captured me I am seeing the error of my ways. I had some issues with Verizon while traveling see my post Back to ATT from Verizon. I live in Phoneix and have noticed that even though I used to have ATT prior to Verizon, Verizon has the best coverage in Phoenix. I do not travel to much but when I did ATT seemed to do better vm notification etc. My AV 9100 works great at home and that is where I spend most of my time plus the pricing is better even though VZ CS was so-so (CS reps did not seem so empowered to do anything ) where ATT CS is the BEST. I hate to leave ATT (still under 30 days) but there is a difference here. Sorry Kenny. If I lived in LA or Seattle or San Francisco I would seriously consider ATT. OH plus Verizon has the largest coverage area here where ATT has a small PCS network and ANALOG roams with Verizon though. I still have great respect for ATT good company. RH |

Larry, I used to be on Cellular One (now Alltel) probabley over two years ago and the CS was very bad and yes rural coverge was good the digital coverage at my house was bad and when I set my Verizon phone to the A side Alltel the signal is the same as 2 years ago and I have full Verizon signal at home. My boss has Alltel (company provided) and he hates it dropped calls no vm nofification at home. But I do have a friend that has them and has had no problems and loves them. Verizon has worked fine where I work and play and pricing is good so I say if it aint broken don't fix it until it is . RH |

Hello RH, I see your dilemma. I live in Prescott, or otherwise known as Pres"kit"....and I know how hard it is to find good coverage in Arizona. I've tried everything you can think of, except Voicestream...they are a joke out here. Anyway, my father had At&t and was forced to get rid of It, due to very poor digital coverage, and even when he had full service ... the phone would still drop calls, always break up and never receive voicemail's. Don't worry, it was not the phone...At&t just plain sucks out here, I would even rate Nextel better then them....based on my own personal experiences. RH, there are three good carriers out here, Verizon #1, Sprint PCS..yes, I said Sprint.. #2, Nextel..#3. I would avoid Alltel, there digital coverage is still very limited and mostly analog. Verizon by far has the best coverage out here, You can roam off Sprint PCS, Alltel and not pay roaming charges. Sprint PCS has great digital coverage out here to, In fact, I find myself roaming off their network a lot. Sprint PCS has come along way from where they were.

Rich, Any word on if Sprint has finally landed a site near Ehrenberg or Quartsite? It seems to be their last trouble spot(s) along the 10 in AZ. |

| Rich, Thank you for the insight on Prescott I have not been up there in a while but the last time I was I thought I took a wrong turn someplace. WOW, Costco, strip malls and homes galore man. It is beautiful up there though I don't blame everbody moving there to get out of the inferno of Summer in Phoenix. No I am sticking with Verizon nothing is perfect but the call quality and coverage here in Phoenix cannot be beat. How do you like your new Verizon phone and coverage around the Prescott area and digital coverage? RH |

Voicestream covers Pheonix, and yes I know that their westtern coverage is a little skimpy, they are growing quickly.

RH, Welcome back. I was concerned about your bad luck, and mine, w/Verizon in LA, but was even more concerned with you switching to AT&T. I was last through AZ 2 weeks ago, and found myself analog roaming often on AT&T, except right in Phoenix proper. It looks like everyone is on those same tall towers around Prescott, but from the same tower, AT&T will drop before Verizon. Our cousins are within site of the Humboldt tower. They don't get local TV reception there! You have underscored that no cell carrier is perfect, and that you are willing to live with Verizon's imperfections more than others. Also, re: Sprint PCS, as we traveled along I-10 PHX to CA, there was a continuous Sprint signal almost all the way to LA. The only dead spot I remember was as you traveled through the mountains west of Quartzite, well out of town. -Bill Radio |

Bill, Did you really pick up a Sprint PCS signal in quartzite itself? I was thru there last October and didn't get anything there or in the mountains west of there to Ehrenberg. Maybe they've added something since then? |

Can you still take back the 9100 RH???? That is a crap phone.................I hate to say it. Over priced for what it is. Go with the Kyocera 2235 if you can. 9100 is about to be discontinued............the new 9100x phones that are replacing them......................we sent them all back to Audiovox because of issues with the phones. Remember 15day return policy TAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wayne, I did not buy a new phone I am still using my old AV9000 and am month to month, anyway I am looking at getting a new phone. I dont want to spend the money for a V60c (is a nice phone though) but am looking at the 2235 since I am not a big flip person. Thank you for the insight though. RH |

At this point I would wait for the Kyocera 2300 series to arrive instead of going with a 2200 model. Should only be a couple months.

Larry, Yes, I drove through Quartzite on 3/24/02 and had a full-scale signal through town. It dropped like a rock a few miles up the mountain, but it was solid everywhere in town. It returned on the west side of the pass. -Bill Radio |
