Hi, I would like to have everyone's opinion on the following two subjects: 1. Which phone is the best (Nokia, motorola, panasonic, etc.) I am in the market for a new phone and I would appreciate comments and advice. Please include the model number of the phone if appropriate. 2. Which service is best (ATT, Verizon, Cingular, Voicestream, etc.). I am looking for service in the Las Vegas area. Please give me your honest opinions as I need to make a decision soon. When calling the different providers, they all make their service sound the best, but I want opinions of people who use the services daily. Thanks... Though the carrier I recommend in the following article I wrote may not be the best in your location, nonetheless the article should help you make a better decision. http://whitehare.topcities.com/WirelessPhones.htm -Kevin |

Hi Kevin, I live in Western Sonoma County using ATT on an Ericsson phone. My service is spotty at best when traveling to various parts of the county. As you say, I have found that customer service has been great with any questions that I have. But...I need to have my phone available/usable where I live and frequent. Are you aware of any new ATT tower upgrades that may be coming soon to this area? Is there another company that services this area better? |

The only other carrier I would recommend would be Verizon. Make sure you watch your bills closely. If there are charges you don't recognize, make sure to call right away. While many users of Verizon disagree, I know of three instances where their billing was WAY off. To their credit, they will work with you, but you can't let issues ride for months and then call in and say "Opps, I forgot to mention...." By the way, the word "Ericsson" caused an alarm to go off in my mind. Unless it is one that was manufactured after the merger with Sony, it may be part of the reason for the dropped calls. Ericsson has made recent strides in quality, but it is mostly their older phones that are even now currently marketed. If you are in a position where you can try another phone for 30 days with ATT and then cancel the whole service if it still doesn't work for you, then I would recommend that. I personally have the Panasonic Allure. I would not recommend the 3300-series Nokias. If you want a Nokia get the 8200-series phone. If you can wait a while, the new 6300-series Nokias are rumored to be released soon. Unfortunately, rumors regarding handsets (from all manufacturers) have proven to be false hopes recently. Kevin |

Kevin, I would disagree with you about the 3360. Granted it's the only phone I've had so far with ATT but I have had no problems whatsoever with it. It's very ergonomic and contrary to popular opinion the voice quality is great IMHO. I have accidently dropped it on concrete and asphalt and it works just fine. If the phone cover gets too dinged up I can just go and get another one for $19.99. I don't know about the other phones in ATT's lineup but the 3360 gets a big thumbs up from me. One thing to consider with the 3360 is to not place your fingers over the internal antenna when making calls because this actually removes one bar of reception! If you hold the phone properly reception is absolutely no problem. Bassman |

Hi Bassman, I am sincerely glad that the 3300-series Nokia has been good for you. I based my comments on the majority of posts in various forums regarding the phone. Even those that own it and like it have admitted that the quality is not as good as the 8200-series. Local ATTWS employees have also echoed that same sentiment. There will always be a few specific instances that will disagree with the general concesus, but it doesn't displace the weight of the majority experience. We all strive to give what seems to be fair and accurate feedback, but, just as our posts prove, "opinion" is not black and white. Kevin |

Hey Kevin! I'm just waiting for ATT's GSM overlay and the hope that they'll make the 8300 series part of their phone lineup! Have you heard if they are going to make these phones available? Bassman |

Hi Bassman, No, that sort of insider info I am not privy to. And I think I may have upset the inside contact I have (had). Ever since my slam on the stupid "mLife" campaign, ATT has stopped talking to me. Too bad. I still think they are wonderful company. I think they are doing more to hurt themselves with this campaign than I'll ever do by criticizing it. I've noticed this campaign is getting blasted on every forum. |
