Hi All- Read some of these posts before I bought my new system 12/26. Went Verizon and that's after being ATT (by employers choice) for the last 5 years. I got 25 miles North of Eugene, OR and it switched to "roam". Questions- (1)do I get charged extra for roaming vs. normal reception? (2) how is the Kyocera 2135 phone? (3) salesperson said it was important to get a "tri" phone? That is as I understand it, a ph that searches twice for digital before it goes analog? I'm primariliy using the system in Oregon and possibly Bay area. Thanks so much for any input- Happy holidays- Jim |

1)do I get charged extra for roaming vs. normal reception? The roaming indicator means that you are using an off-network tower, which is different from the contracted roaming-charge responsibility. If you got the local plan (in northern Calif I am assuming), then only Northern California and parts of Nevada are your "local" area. If you got the Regional plan, you have 12 states as your "home" area. However, this doesn't mean that Verizon can't or won't "goff" in the billing. Examine your bill carefully. Call Customer Service for more clarifications of coverage. 2) how is the Kyocera 2135 phone? EPinions 2135 Review 3) A "tri" phone? A tri-mode phone is a phone with two digital bands (800MHz, 1.9GHz) and one analog band (800MHz). Verizon has very few PCS (1.9GHz) towers but will in the coming future. The salesman's insistance on your buying that phone may have been more commission-driven than anything. However, it is good that you bought it because as more 1.9GHz towers are deployed, you'll need it. PS You mentioned 5-years with ATT (through an employer)... Why did you decide to change to Verizon? Did ATT provide poor service in your area(s)? |

Thanks KJ- I am changing from ATT due to very poor reception at my home. I was hoping that a different carrier would have different towers etc, and hopefully better cov. It appears that the Verizon has good recep here at the house and ATT had none at all unless I went outside. Cool. I appreciate the link for the phone review. I can't figure out the web use dealamabob, but maybe I'll break down & read the book tonight! Take care, & thanks again. Jim |
