My wife is an old T-Mobile customer from the Voicestream days in 1999. She started out on the Personal Plus 1999 and then moved to the NW Get More Plan in 7/02. She gets 1000 minutes through the plan, unlimited weekend minutes, and 50 Loyalty Minutes. It's all free roaming and free long distance. Anyway, her first phone was stolen out of her car in 8/02, T-Mobile replaced it for a song. Anyway, the ringer on her second phone went out, so it's time for phone number three. What phones can you recommend? Are there any that should be avoided? It's important that the phone get good reception, as we've had troubles with the Nokia 3390B at our house. Of course, that is more than likely the lack of coverage though. T-Mobile doesn't work well at all at our house, but a 1/2 mile down the road it works fine. She uses around 300 to 500 minutes a month, so I'm thinking it will be best that I change our newly started VZW Family Share plan to a single plan for me, and she continue to use T-Mobile. We are still within the 15 day tryout period with VZW. Thanks. Roy |

Depends on what you want to pay. Current customers in general get the same price as a new activation at a TM corporate store (which are the same as you see on the TM website except for "online specials". The Samsung e105 is a very good phone for $99 after rebate (you get rebates now too).

I agree with Matt, as I have the e105. I love the phone and the price is very reasonable...

I talked to a CSR last night. She said I get the Nokia 3595 for $50 and get a $50 rebate if I signed up on a 12 month contract. I asked how much the phone was without the contract. She said $50. I laughed. I'm sure I'll get right on that contract for a wopping $50 savings. Are there any decent ones that I could look for on eBay? I can just swap SIM cards and she's off with a new phone. We're not sure what we're going to do. That is drop T-Mobile and go with the VZW America's Choice Family Share, or to keep T-Mobile for my wife (despite the lousy coverage at our house), and just have me have a VZW America's Choice. It is absolutely necessary that I have the best coverage possible in my area, so VZW it is for me. |

I would just go with Verizon Family plan and get the Samsung A530s or the LG v6000.

Yeah Rasputin, I'm leaning that direction. My electrical contractor's license will be issued to me in about a month and a half. I'm not sure yet how many minutes I'll be using, but I was thinking the 1200 minute Family Share @ $100 total would be nice. My wife's minute usage has been around 300 to 400 minutes and sometimes above 500. That would leave me with roughly 800, give or take a few. While I'm only doing side jobs, that will be plenty, but when I start doing it full time, who knows how many minutes I'll need. Another nice thing is that my wife and I can talk for free, which won't use my expensive VZW minutes.

royta, How do you like your vx4400. I aquired one but have not activated it and don't have verizon's service. Would you recommend it, or lean towards a newer model?

I really like it. I prefer the method of accessing the phone book via voice on the 4400B over the 4500. I really like the tri-mode feature. I like to go on drives in the back country, and i feel the tri-mode will give me the edge over a digital only phone. Plus, the nearest tower to my house is on the other side of a hill, and I had some problems with the 4500. I'm not sure if I actually have less problems with the 4400B, but at least I think I do. I liked the speaker phone on the 4500, but I thought about when I'd really be using it, and I didn't think it was worth not having a tri-mode phone. There are times though that it could be nice. Like if you are on hold and want to set the phone down so you can work with both hands, you can just switch to speaker phone and not worry about missing a call. Of course, a headset remedies that problem, but still, it's a nice feature to have. However, for my area in the part of Corona, CA that I live, the tri-mode will, I think, be a benefit. And since I'll be having my business cards printed up with a single phone number, my cell phone, good coverage is paramount.

Very good then.... I don't think I will be activating/going to a Verizon service plan until I am able to get service at my home (I am in a Verizon Analog only area right now). Once they get a tower up that provides decent digital service, I will consider them. Oh yeah, and they also are putting up a tower on the property where I work, so things should only get better for Verizon in north Tucson!

My wife's sister lives in Apache Junction, AZ. Her husband is the assistant city manager, that's why. She's had VZW for the last couple years and hasn't had any complaints.

I would rather pay a few $ more per month and get a decent signal at my house and in my area, but that's just me. Having one provider is also better, because you don't use your anytime minutes to talk to each other, and if Verizon has better coverage at your house and the areas you guys work/go, then go with them and drop T-Mobile, it is worth the extra $ to have good coverage. ~Andy | |

I think I'm going to drop the VZW Family Share Plan, and my wife on VZW, and maintain seperate accounts with both VZW and T-Mobile. We'll evaluate our calling history in three months, and if it pencils out (meaning lots of minutes being wasted on my VZW calling her T-Mobile), I'll drop T-Mobile, and sign my wife up with VZW on a Family Share Plan. I already ran this by VZW customer service, and they said no problem at all.

He has a great plan with T-mobile and is reluctant to give it up (or so I think :-)) Like many of the posters here said if you talk to eachother alot then one company is benefitial to use mobile to mobile minutes Keep us informed Jack
