Hey guys, I just made a site that allows people to review their cell phone reception. I am sick and tired of signing up a one year contact only to find that my phone doesn't get any reception at home. Hopefully someday this site can collect enough data to file a class action against the wireless carriers ;-) Check it out, sound off your reception, so everyone can hear you (making fun of the Verizon dude) :-) http://www.wirelessreview.net |

13294792: I know you have good intentions, but wireless carriers give you at least a 15 day trial to try out their service before you are bound by their contract(s). AT&T Wireless gives you 30 days. You can find out if it works good at your house within 15 days or so. Wireless service providers cannot guarantee you service everywhere. I have found that most class action suits directed towards wireless carriers are promoted by greed and ignorance and are not always legit.

Why did someone post Sprint in Irvine 14 times in a row? How do you view the other entires besides the most recent 20? This isn't really that different than other web sites that exsist such as: http://www.cellphone.homestead.com/ http://www.cellreception.com/ |

The page probably didn't load fast enough for them, and they just hit the submit button several times Larry. Those other sites are already out there, that's true, but let's give this new one a little time, and some support

I am not serious about suing the carrier, just joking la :-) I think this is kind of useful though, especially if you are going to travel somewhere after the trial period. Also, I don't think the shops in ChinaTown will give you any trial, but they do get the fattest deal and nicest phones (still don't know how they can make money, got my T-Mobile family plan for only $19.99 (2 lines) after their rebate check.) This service will become more important as people connect their laptop online using cell phone... |

Cool, I probably wouldn't bother to write the site had I known those two other ones... I don't think they allow search by phone model, though. Anyway, what the hell, it is already out there, annual hosting fee already paid and it didn't take me that much effort, we will see what happen. It was fun writing it, I am moving on to other projects. :-) Btw, I am totally cool with sharing the data with those other sites. I just want an aggregate searchable database... Oh, to keep the site fast, I only return last 20 entries. No one is interested in all the information, you can always do a search and see if anything comes up, if not, spread the words :-) |

I've never seen http://www.cellreception.com before. I'm really suprised at how many comments there are from people not being able to use a wireless at their house. Have that many people completely "cut the cord", or is there some other obvious reason why it's seemingly important to so many (besides students in a dorm - that's obvious even to me)? Olivia |

I cleaned up the data and added unique contraints to the table. Not sure whether those entries are spam or not though I will just leave them there for now.

The site created by 13294792 does have a major flaw: It needs to have the date-of-post visible. What if I come to the site a month, 3 months, 6 months from now and read a post that is so old that it itself is misleading. Perhaps a new tower went up. Now if you want to somehow gather the data on all towers that are going up, which carrier(s) are being added to it, etc., then you could query your database for zipcodes and come up with some batch update that will remove posts no longer pertinent or at very least flag them as possibly out of date. then there will always be those eager beavers that, the moment a tower goes down for maintenance or some other unexpected reason, will be posting the heck out of your site. None of the post will be valid. You deserve commendation for the desire to provide consumers with valuable information, but such an endeavor should probably be done by someone more professionally close enough to the industry yet not so close they lose objectivity. Perhaps someone associated with the FCC. |

That's why I never liked the idea of deadcellzones.com. There is a lot of outdated info and there's no telling when the entries were submitted. They could have been submitted 3 years ago or yesterday.

Thanks for your comment KevinJames. I do record the creation date in the database. I just don't have enough space to display it on the table. As time goes by and as the data grows, I will put date as part of the search criteria. I am not affiliated with the wireless/cell phone industry. And I definitely don't think FCC is going to give me a research grant |
