Default T-Mobile Sidekick help

Even if you were to unlock the Sidekick, you wouldn't be able to use any data/Internet services with AT&T since AT&T doesn't have an arrangement with Danger to provide necessary services. (Oddly, AT&T itself doesn't but AT&T affiliates SunCom and Edge Wireless do. Sidekicks/Hiptops used with other carriers can *roam* on AT&T GSM where permitted just fine.)

Default T-Mobile Sidekick help

I'd really love a Sidekick, but unfortunately I don't have the money to buy it or pay for the service and I can't even get one if I could. I suppose I could ask T-Mobile to ship one to me and give me an Atlanta number or something, since there are no remotely local numbers.

Do Sidekicks even get numbers?

Default T-Mobile Sidekick help

The Sidekick is a cool device, it lays out web pages nicely & the instant messenger is great too. But overall the device is very limited on what it can do, and RF is very poor too. The price tag is a little high for this device IMHO.

SQFreak - By looking at T-Mobile's coverage map I doubt you would be able to sign up for service. As the pink areas are considered Roaming areas. You won't get charged roaming, but extras like T-Zones, internet, & sidekick will not work.

Default T-Mobile Sidekick help

T-Mobile GPRS works fine in Cingular areas in the Carolinas, and (contrary to the maps) there are no charges for roaming for voice or data.

Yes, Sidekicks get phone numbers, even if they're on a "data-only" plan (the "data-only" plans allow voice calls at 20c/min)...the only challenge to getting service in NC would be providing a billing address in a T-Mobile market.
