Default Western Wireless in Central Nevada

Revising my question -

I am not even sure if Western Wireless is currently CDMA or TDMA - but they must at least provide some TDMA support, because I am pretty sure that they are a roaming partner in central Nevada for AT&T TDMA. My question is when (if ever) might Western Wireless have the proper equipment to become a GSM roaming partner for either AT&T GSM or Cingular.

Thanks. Tom

They're already running GSM in Northern Nevada, in Fernley, Battle Mountain, Winnemucca, Rye Patch, Elko and Wells.

Thanks. That covers the I80 corridor. Do you know if Cingular and AT&T are using Western Wireless's GSM system via roaming agreement or do they have their own systems along I80.

Any ideas about central NV. Along Highway 50. Maybe some of this is still even analog, not sure - but you can get pretty decent coverage with TDMA/AMPS.

They're using them via roaming agreements, Cingular and AT&T (soon to be Cingular too ) don't have licenses to cover that area. I don't know about 50, I've never been on that route into Nevada, just on I-15, I-80 and Amtrak, hope this helps

Western Wireless is pushing CDMA to almost all of their markets for their customers. GSM is for roaming purposes. I don't know if they are putting GSM base stations because of their past relations in forming what is now T-Mobile?

Western Wireless' international division, WWI, actually runs a large number of company-owned GSM networks in Ireland, Slovenia and a number of other countries. By spreading their assets around different cell standards, they ensure themselves a diverse customer base.

Verizon doesn't have licenses in part of the I-80/UPRR/Amtrak corridor, CC Communications is their partner in that stretch, including Winnemmucca, Lovelock, Rye Patch and Battle Mountain, so unless Verizon were to buy them our or purchase PCS licenses there, they'll never cover that stretch.

CC Communications

I guess I'm wrong, but doesn't Verizon cover part of I-80 in Nevada themselves?? You know the part from the Utah border to somewhere in central NV...

Yep, they do, between Reno and Fernley, and Elko to the UT Border, but not in those areas I listed.

I see, but CC's coverage is not included in the AC, right?

Nope, it's not, even though CC and Verizon are very close roaming partners, go figure. The ONLY plans it would be included on would be the old western region plans, local plans and on the Single Rate National, so much for AC being nationwide lol

Well, do you think they will ever add CC as their preffered roaming partner for the AC in this area, because other carriers are starting to offer service in this area(through roaming I guess).

even if I am correct I dont see Verizon building towers any time soon.

If they can't fix over 75 miles of Roam on Union Cellular on I-80 in Wyoming (Rock Springs to Rawlings)

I can't see them building any more in Northern Nevada any time soon,

Default Western Wireless in Central Nevada

Here's the B-side carriers (CC is on the B side in it's coverage areas), CC's is on there, I'll have to compare it to a map of Nevada-

Okay, here's a county map of Nevada-

Go here to find out about each county-

Nevada Counties

It looks like to me they cover Humboldt (Winnemmucca), Pershing (Lovelock, Rye Patch), Churchill (Fallon), Mineral (Hawthorne, Mina) and Esmeralda Counties (Goldfield) and part of Lander County (part of Lander County, including the city of Austin, is covered by CC, the other part, including Battle Mountain, is covered by Verizon). Winnemmucca is in Humboldt County, and is the county seat, along with a big Union Pacific railroad town
