There seems to be a discount going on with Verizon where you get 17% off on select plans. I'm trying to get some details for that(how long it goes on, etc.) and if it can be used with other deals(like the 100 bonus minutes being offered).

I'm assuming you work for a company that has an agreement with VZW? If so, the discount remains forever.

Nah, I'm sure not. It was mentioned over at Howard Forums in a thread. It didn't say what the requirements were, it sounded like anyone that asked. Though I'd try and get more info tho before I called them up acting like some fool just trying to get a discount..lol.

I'm with Jayc, it sounds like a b2b (business to business) program. My wife is an engineer at Cisco and Verizon discounts their plans by 15% to Cisco employees. Occasionally they offer other promotions in conjunction with the discount as well. My company has the same deal with AT&T (Cingular)...

I guarantee you there isn't one publicly available, Jack. You will just have to check with your employer. Typically it is ONLY offered to employees of the firm and their families once the deal goes through, and the amount of the discount varies with the number of lines sold, anywhere from 7% off to 20% off.

Zaphodb is correct. These type discounts are more commonly call 'strategic partner business relationships' and are generally struck between businesses (companies) who do business with each other. For instance, the company I work for makes test and measurement instruments of which some are sold into the telecommunications industry. As a result, employees at my company enjoy the benefit of good to great discounts on products and services sold by those businesses that are our customers. Likewise, my wife works for a well known telecom company and their employees have access to attractive discounts for products and services sold by their customers. These discounts, however, vary from company to company depending upon volume, strength and strategic value of the relationship between each business. So naturally, one would not expect to find a 'list' showing the different discounts company X gives to its various 'strategic partners'.

I go to Emory University in Atlanta, and faculty/staff get 15% off rate plans and students get 10%. I have the 800-minute plan that's $59.99, and it comes down to $53 even on my bill, so it's a nice deal. So effectively I get the phone insurance and a small text messaging package for free.

Tons of companies have discounts through their employer. I get a Sprint discount and I set it up at Employee Value Program - Home. They make you verify your employment, but I got a 23% through my work, so still a good deal. |
