The Berkeley City Council finally approved the Sprint antennas at 1600 Shattuck tonight after more than a year of delays and vote continuations! It was a real squeaker. They deadlocked on two different motions, (one to approve and another to deny) so one member decided to change her vote to approve so they could have some extra safety stipulations in the approval of the antennas. Very nice win for Sprint! Here's one of the many news stories about this well publicized case: http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/...on/7833854.htm |

You just have to love these NIMBY City Officials, They care about the antennas, but what about the smell of Urine in the streets, people shooting up on the street. Get your prorities in line. |

Hey Larry and Rasputin: I'm a newbee to your forum, but a vetran in the wireless industry. Fought several major battles for zoning rights in Mendocino County, surrounding counties, and the NW (as well as all over the country). Batting 1000 so far, but some took years. I've heard it said that winning entitlements for a base station is around 50% of the construction cost of the facility, system wide average. Can be. If not for those costs imagine the improved networks that might be out there. I know systems I've built have saved several lives in emergency situations. Anyway, thought I'd introduce myself and say Hey. |

Welcome to the forum dad! You'll probably find some of the stuff I post very interesting. I alway get a kick out of those people who try to fight every base station by claiming the same old "it's bad for our health" argument.

Thanks Larry. Interesting article re: Berkley. I'll be checking and writing to the forum m-f from the office. Look forward to chatting with you all. I'm with an engineering firm in the wireless business, at www.com-serv.com. Have a great week-end.

Well that could have happened. It wouldn't surprise me with some of those loony Berkeley people.

But are you out there spening most of your time fighting cell antennas and other things that you determine you don't want to live with? That's what these people do for a living.

and how about the multiple calls the opponents made to each other with SPCS phones in an effort to prove the lack of necessity for a new tower. The council ended up giving more credibility to their highly unscientific effort than to the consultants that went on drive tests with the Sprint folks. Amazing. G. |
