Well, after a few weeks of trying out Verizon I think I have found MY ultimate carrier. There has been nowhere that I have gone that I haven't had service or at least been able to initiate a call. The voice clarity is more than acceptable and the first billing cycle went smoothly. I feel like a pilgrim who has come to the end of his journey. Consider me a convert! Jim |

ILUVSOCAL, I don't know if I've ever mentioned this but, my area is not the best either for Verizon. Verizon's tower servicing my town is 15 miles away. My Dad is on Verizon. He is roaming onto Cell One more often then he will admit. If I did not live where I am now, I most likely would be a Verizon subscriber. I've spoken with many people that tell me that Cell One service always "have a better chance" of making a call when in the mountains and other rural and mountainous terrain. The Verizon here is the former Comm Net cellular. The towers are still spaced for the 3 watt phones days. Cellular One still has room to improve. But when it boils down to who is the best provider for the mountainous terrain of my county, you know my choice.

He lives in Beaver I don't think you'd told me either, Verizon is not the be all end all after all lol If you want good coverage in my mountainous, rural area, it's US Cellular, Cingular or Edge, Verizon does good ONLY in Ukiah, Willits and Lakeport, outside of there, it's a lost cause with them. They also have tower spacing here (15-25 miles) for 3 watt phones, Contel was the original provider here, then GTE took them over in the mid 90's, and then Verizon, and while they have upgraded the few areas they serve well here to 1X CDMA, the 9 towers promised us a few years ago when Verizon came to town? A grand total of........BAM 1 has been put up!

I can believe it. I believe that Verizon is concentrating their efforts in the metro areas.

Cool bassman, glad you're happy. I love my nokia 3589i, it can make calls where my other phones were either dead (LG 4400) or would drop constantly (Moto 730). Yeah....Verizon must be focusing on metro markets. I haven't seen any major improvements in Delaware, eastern MD, or rural PA (lancaster, etc). Verizon was excellant 2 years ago, but IMO hasn't added towers like everyone else. Plus, my good old 5185i would work anywhere! My current nokia is good, but use a LG...forget about great coverage in the places I go. Bah! (Socal...Verizon monitors us and is just trying to irritate us haha) |
