I already had a pretty good idea but I'm still curious... how is GSM coverage in Arizona? Mostly off highway 69 through Dewey, Prescott Valley areas. I've heard Tmobile was good but I want to hear it from someone that might have it. Thanks

GSM is still pretty spotty along HWY 69, At&T has added several new sites since they launched their GSM service in Prescott & Prescott Valley. T-Mobile has not made any significant improvements to their network in Northern AZ, for some strange reason. In my opinion I would have to say that At&T wireless has the best GSM coverage in AZ, especially in Northern AZ. Sprint owns almost all the towers along i17 from Cordes Junction north to Flagstaff, and towers on HWY 69 all the way into Prescott. Sprint & At&T have a tower sharing agreement to that kinda give At&T the upper hand.

Gideon, I will be traveling to Prescott on Feb 12 for two weeks. I'm going to be riding my Harley all over AZ with my Dad for the first week, I'll bring my Sprint and my At&T phone with me on our excursions and let you know how GSM held up.

How is it on the Southwest Chief and Sunset Limited routes through Arizona? What about the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams Jct. to the South Rim? Thanks

Hey Rich,

Any idea on whether Sprint has coverage in Winslow, AZ yet? According to their tower maps they do have at least one tower in Winslow but it's not shown as covered on the web site or when you punch in a Winslow zip code. I guess the only way to know for sure is to visit.

Yea I figured Sprint was pretty good anywhere in AZ. I have a Virgin Mobile as a temp. phone and they use Sprint's towers and I can get an average of 3 bars all the way out to Cherry on HWY 169 and anywhere on HWY 69 and 89A. I definately didn't know AT&T had better GSM coverage out here than Tmobile. Well I look foward to your report!

Yes Sprint does cover Winslow fairly well, The tower on HWY 87 is a big one!!

Well I can tell you that Sprint has coverage from Williams until you get around Red Lake on RTE 64, then is switches to Altell or Verizon analog. You wont get Digital service again until you reach Grand Canyon city, Qwest owns a tower at the Park rangers offices at the South rim and it's the only tower around!!

As for At&T GSM I know they have coverage on HWY 89 in Cameron south to Gray Mountain, I'll have more info for At&T once I get there.

Sprint needs to update their online coverage maps. Whoever was responsible for that has completely disappeared.
