I found a sprint tower by my house on sprintsites.com here is the url with a photo: Tower photo I just wondered what kind of tower this was. It is 55 feet high and on the very top is something shaped like a cylinder. Is this a cell tower or is it something else? Thanks |

Yep I remember when that one was built back in 2001. It is a cell tower that is called a uni-pole. Sprint often uses this type of tower to appease the city and the local neighborhoods as it's not as ugly as a traditonal monopole tower with arms and panels. The new Sprint tower in Pomona on Towne Ave. looks just like that. |

Thanks for the replies. Was wondering if this type of tower is just as effective signal wise as the other type of towers? The reason I ask is because it is about 1 mile from my house and was going to switch to Sprint if it would give me strong reception. By the way this tower is in a school parking lot. |

They are jsut as effective. About signal, cant really be sure. It depends on the configuration of the equiptment. One mile is far enough away that you shouldn't have trouble from it.

Thanks everyone. I think I will try it out with Sprint and if it doesn't work very well I will just return the phone and cancel the contract. Was just hoping for something better than my ATT TDMA which used to be good but starting about 6 months ago is just awful. |

I go to a Catholic High School and in the front of the school there is a really tall Cross, and one of my teachers said there is a Sprint tower concealed inside of it!

Sprint does do a lot of church installations and usually disguise them as crosses or bell towers.

This thread is ancient! But to answer your question there is no set distance for tower range. There's a lot of variation that can affect RF propogation such as terrain, population, height of tower, power output, etc. |
