Default VZW CA network expands

The Northern California/Nevada Region network team recently launched an additional cell site in the Salinas, CA, market, helping to offload capacity from two cell sites nearby. Additional coverage provided by this new site to customers in this central coast market spans more than three miles both north and south on Highway 101.

Good news for Salinas, wish they'd do something about Hwy.101 up here

hey ILUVSOCAL
Has anyone from Verizon said why there are so many dead spots in Northern Cal.
And so little network buildout??

Most of Northern California is good, it's just this part that is so horrible. As for why they are so slooooooow in fixing the dead spots in the Lake and Mendocino County areas, I can never get a straight answer out of them. I guess the "bastard stepchild" mentality just carried over from the previous owners, Contel and later GTE. They told me they have several new sites planned for this area, but that was over 2 years ago, only one has gone up, while the other carriers (Edge Wireless, Cingular and US Cellular) have put up several in that same amount of time. They have converted the entire area to 1X CDMA, but that's about it for improvements from them for us.

They won't improve your area... they read these forums and they know that if they improved your area they'd be silencing you! It's a giant conspiracy, see.

Seriously, though, isn't Mendocino one of those places that's superultramegamecha-NIMBY?

No more so than any other place, and the other guys have put up plenty of sites in that time, so Verizon can't use that excuse, I just think they don't care, only they won't admit it.

Yes Cingular has the new tower at the 241/133 interchange. Other carriers are supposed to co-locate on it soon but as of right now I believe it's only Cingular/T-Mobile.

I was just in Salinas last week. Sprint also recently added 2 new sites there. One along 101 and another along Hwy 183.

Jodi,

There's really no way of knowing that or even finding out. But according to the permit filing on this tower, Verizon was listed as one of the carriers to eventually be on it. Sprint was too although I don't know why. They already have a tower not too far away from there and I get a pretty good signal at the 241/133 interchange already.

Perhaps I'll shoot an email to the Northern Cal network team if my memory serves. Maybe they'll give me a more specific answer.

No way, I love it here, I was born and raised here, and I wouldn't live anywhere else! This is my home, and I will not run away from her, she's my fatherland! Besides, there is no perfect place, and I could spend the rest of my life trying to find it, and I'd still come up empty handed. There's so much variety here in nature it's amazing, snowiest place in the US, hightest point in the continental US, lowest spot in the US, deserts, largest living things in the world, oldest living things in the world, alpine, volcanoes, glaciers, forests, almost every climate, and the economy will come back, even with it down, California still has the 3rd largest economy in the world. I lived in Idaho for 7 years (my mom and dad are originally from there), and while it is pretty too, there's just not the variety there that I enjoy here in CA. Why did you pick Ohio? It's so flat there

Check this thread over at dslr.com, you'll see why I think this state is so beautiful, and so varied

Rolls his eyes and chuckles...Matt, I think you have been watching wayyyy too much Rickie lake and reading way too many Enquirer stories Did you visit that link at all? I feel sorry you feel like that about California, you're dead wrong about CA, and I'll take a beautiful snowy morning in the Sierra Wilderness or an unspoiled view on the coast over a flat, boring day in Ohio anytime That said, I think this is getting wayyy off topic.

Hey guys -- I found a spot where Vzw dropped a call yesterday -- I-80 at Donner Pass! I'm not usually on the phone there, but yesterday I found myself on a call that dropped out.

BTW -- I think the town of Mendocino is extreme NIMBY territory. IIRC, don't even really has usable analog in the town.

The one complaint I have especially around here in LA is that there are way too many vehicles on the road. You can't even drive somewhere on a Saturday or Sunday anymore without running into bumper to bumper traffic. That was not the case just 5 years ago. So in just the past couple fo years traffic has become noticeably worse. And you can never find a parking spot these days at any major shopping area, restaurant, etc. But I still would never leave CA no matter what.

Ah...you just described why everytime I get nostalgic for CA and I return I realize why I wanted out after about 12 hours. I'm looking forward to being there in March...but I will be sick of San Diego after a day. It's just how it is for me now.
