Anyone out there live in Vegas? What service do you use and is it any good? My son has Sprinticon and an older phone (touchpoint 2100) with a lousy batteryicon and lots of dropped calls. He can get a new Sanyo with a $100 credit to his account (I'm going to pay the difference so we can hopefully have a conversation without the calls constantly dropping. It's a "Mom" thing.) but they require a 2 yr contract. He hates Sprinticon as it is and doesn't want to commit to 2 more years. I wondering if it's his phone that's the problem or Sprinticon or a combo of both. He'd moved from Seattle to Vegas last April and needed a new cell number for the Vegas area. (He had Sprint in Seattle.) Sprint made him commit to a year contract or they would charge him $5 more a month because he changed areas, he would be then be considered to be on a "month to month". He was not a very happy camper up in Seattle with Sprint and the screwing with the month to month garbage made it worse. Now there's this 2 year commintment thing. So, any advice? Anyone?

Sprinticon should be one of the best in Vegas as they are the local landline carrier there. I'm surprised to hear about the dropped calls in Vegas. That shouldn't be happening as the area is very well covered.

I've been to Vegas several times & have no problems with reception with Verizonicon. I've been able to get reception even deep in the casinos (although the dealers dont like ringing phones @ the tables...LOL) & from my hotel rooms.

Larry, i've used my Sprinticon phone in Vegas with no problems, coud it be that it's their phone Touchpoint 2100, i was using my Sanyo 8100 it had no problems.

Well, it looks like he doesn't really like Sprint anyways. Sprint might not be the best choice for your son. So, with Number Portability comming in effect tomorrow(Monday), he might as well cancel his Sprint service and get a new phone and provider. Verizonicon would be my choice. I just got the VX 6000 for $69.99 after rebate yesterday and it's a really good phone!

Verizonicon and Sprint both seem to work really well. I say try the 8100 out, and if he doesn't like it, hopefully he can get out of the contract (if he returns the phone). Otherwise I can heartily reccomend Verizonicon. Both worked well on the strip as well as way out there in no-where. We went so far out there, and this one place had a cell tower, only Sprint and Verizonicon were on it. I say they are the two best. Good luck

I got my lx6000 for free because I've been a customer for SO LONGGGGGG and have multiple lines. They also offered me three T-730's for $ 29.99 a piece. It sometimes helps to be a loyal customer though I know from experience sometimes VZWicon isn't so generous. But that free phone definitely made up for any misgivings I've had in the past..

I currently use Sprinticon and have had no problems when I've gone to Vegas. I had Verizonicon before and they were great in Vegas as well. I only switched so I could get more minutes without paying more. It sounds like the main problem is the phone not the service provider. Good luck!

I went in with a friend, and we both got it, so the rep gave it to us for $69.99 each.

I have T-Mobileicon and have had great reception there. Have had full coverage in all of the casinos, my room, the mall, Caesers Forum Shops and the Alladin Desert Passage.

You don't have to sign up for a 2 year contract (or, in fact, any contract) to get Sprinticon. However, their best deals require a 2 year contract. If you're eligible to sign up through your employer, you may want to sign up using a business plan; that gets you both a discount on the monthly recurring chargeicon, and a $150 bill credit.

Sprinticon coverage in Las Vegas is generally excellent, and they even have in-building repeaters in most of the large hotel/casino complexes (not that this necessarily matters to residents of Las Vegas, who tend to avoid the tourist places unless they work there). It's likely that the problems your son is experiencing are due to problems with his handset.

Sprinticon, like some of the other carriers, is having trouble keeping up with the fast growth in Vegas, but they will keep adding sites in these areas. Otherwise, Sprinticon works as well as anyone, especially north and south along I-15. Now, there is only a short span of no coverage through the Virgin River canyon, and then continuous coverage from L.A. to Idaho.

Nevada is one of those states Sprinticon is working extra hard to be the best carrier in the area (along w/CA & AZ). The Touchpoint phone was one of Sprint's best. It sounds like yours has worn out.

I looked at the Sprinticon tower locations in Vegas and surrounding areas and it was very impressive. I can't imagine being without a good signal there.

Thanks all for the info. It's been a great help. You're all great! He's going to get the 8100. I think it's a nifty phone. I wish AT&Ticon had the Sanyo. From what I've read, it's one of the best makers on the market.

I have an A500, and have been to Vegas several times and have had wonderful coverage there with my phone and SPCS service. My opinion: Stay with SPCS, you will find with a newer phone, his coverage will be so much better.

Verizonicon works well for me, my brothers have Sprint, their phones worked well, a few more drops at the Venetian, and they had a couple of dead spots at Mandalay Bay/Four Seasons. Other than that their Sprinticon phones worked as well as my Verizonicon

I had perfect coverage in the Venetian when I was there in August. But I think I do remember the dead spot deep inside Mandalay Bay. It's one of the few major casinos with no indoor microcells yet.

I was in Vegas last April with Sprint and Verizonicon. We stayed at the Mandalay Bay (yuck, snobby craphole) and Monte Carlo (our fav). Mandalay Bay was mostly dead on the casino floor with both. Luxor, same. Venetian, Verizonicon was better. I do know Verizonicon has a tower right on the Tropicana, but it doesn't help the Luxor, MB, or Excalibur much. Those hotels need to get inside microcells like MGM/Mirage hotels did, full on Verizon and Sprint then! Both carriers were good overall though.

Also, Sprinticon was dead at the Aladin Buffet when I was there last time.

I have Sprinticon, and the Sanyo 8100 and had very few areas where I felt there were problems with the service even in the casinos. If you tell you friend/brother whoever it was to get a sanyo, make sure they get the software update and also get the most recent PRL.

Was at the Aladdin last summer, Verizonicon was dead on the lower floors of that hotel too. Was real fun waiting in line for an hour to check in, and have no reception just added to the fun!

Not sure what carrier you are talking about but I had great coverage in New York New York with Sprinticon in August. No roaming at all. They have micro cells inside the casinos.

Sprint has a tower right across the street from Luxor. However the signal is still weak inside on the first floor.
