Thinking of switching from Cingular, which I like quite a bit, to Sprint for the camera phone. They're giving away two Samsung something-somethings for the price of one. Unlimited text and web, sounds great - does anyone know if there is a catch I should know about? I'm in Los Angeles. Thanks!

The two for the price of one deal is for the Samsung A460 (and a few other phones) which are not camera phones. The best deal on a camera phone right now is the $99.99 Sanyo 8100 which requires a 2 year contract. I have the unlimited web service with the Samsung A500 and it works great for me here in Orange County.

The other buy one get one free phone is the N400. The a460 is prone to have reception problems (personally experianced), and the N400 has problems with the software (mostly with browser). Larry mentioned the Sanyo 8100, which is a good phone. Also there is the Samsung VGA1000 (a620) it is $129.99 w/ 2 yr. contract, it also is a good phone. The VGA1000 has a better camera than the 8100, also has more features, & better sound quality too. But th VGA1000 dose have a few problems (bugs) that need to be worked out. IMO the VGA1000 is worth the extra bugs and all.

The BEST Buy right now is getting the $300 Sanyo 5300 for a mere $79 BUCKS at radioshack!!! Sanyo seems to go with Sprint very well, better than samsung, plus the 5300 is a very powerful phone. Go with Sanyo

Yea, I would take a 5300 for $79. It is well worth the price.

I know everybody raves about Sanyo's but frankly I myself don't like them. They have very poor audio quality. Yes the Sanyo's have a little bit better RF but the SamSung's sound much better.

Considering that the A500 and A620 use the exact same browser there shouldn't be any difference between the two. In additon to that the people I know that have used both the 8100 and A500 say that the A500 is faster. |

The a620 is slightly faster IMO because of more memory for page downloads & fewer Vision errors. I will agree the a500 is faster than the 8100. Also IMO the browser on the a500 & a620 is easier to read & laid out much better than Sanyo phones, even though some don't like the big text of the Samsung browsers.

Stacy wants a camera phone, so like Xprt said, go with the 5300, wow for $79 bucks. or if you want the 8100 in the lavender, alot of girls seem to like that one.

A Sanyo 5300 for $79 is a great deal. I would agree with Budney, if the choice comes down to the Sanyo 8100 and Samsung A620, go for the Samsung.

just heard from a sprint buddy that they will only be carrying the silver on the 8100. You might find some of the lavender ones at a radio shack or another 3rd party store.

So what happens if you have the Navy Blue 8100 and you need to replaced it, do they just give a Silver version?
