I don't get why some misguided person or group always has to try to fight these antennas.

Default Sprint wins NIMBY battle in Malibu, CA!

I am surprised the rich and powerful directors and stars let the NIMBY'S go that far.

That is good, always like to see the NIMBYS loose. The rich people & the stars are normally the NIMBYS as they don't want anything to obstruct their views from their mansions. And also like when they don't like the public to use the beach where their beach front homes are. It is all a bunch of ridiculous BS IMO.

Nice catch Larry. I use Sprint, AT&T and Verizon across the entire length of Malibu and some of this seems a bit silly.
First, for all of it snobbishness, Malibu has probably the most hideous display of poorly-designed power lines and poles one can find in California. To add cell sites to these poles is barely noticeable, and to a frequent user in the area, certainly desirable.

Next, it appears Sprint is making an attempt to super-serve the neighborhoods there because they already have good coverage along the entire length of the Pacific Coast Highway. Average communications users should be flattered coverage will improve further.

Then, this article shows the relative ignorance of both the city administrators and the NIMBY opposition. The 'health effects' excuse just won't stand in court. And they know installation on those already-ugly utility poles won't detract from the asthetics.

I am surprised that Sprint didn't suggest even smaller, "pico-cells", but they must have known the opposition was on shaky ground. The really big stars and coporate types don't even see the 'business' side of their houses, so they have no reason to complain, as long as the view isn't blocked.

-Bill
