Here I am looking at Verizon Wireless Local DigitalChoice that covers OR, WA and Northern ID. The LocalDigital Choice 500, which includes 500 anytime and here's the description: "domestic long distance is 20c/min from your home airtime rate area(airtime charges apply)#" "domestic roaming is 69c/min(includes domestic long distance charges).##" "#Long distance charges may also apply to calls received" What the heck? What kind of received calls results in a long distance charge while you're located in home coverage area? "##Domestic long distance is an additional 20c per minute for calls you recive while roaming" Someone explain this to me too. Say I'm in Atlanta, GA w/ my 503 Portland OR phone. If I get a call from someone on Portland, would I be charged 69c/min roaming or would I be charged 89c/min? What if someone calls my 503 Oregon phone from Atlanta while I'm in Atlanta? I hate this unclear "may apply" crap. |

Jerboy, Unfortunately, the web information is the result of information being added and subtracted, sometimes at different times, and from different inputs. Verizon attorneys often will say leave something in the disclaimer, "just in case." These 'extra' charges are rare. My wife has a Local plan, and she is charged far less often than we expect. On her last plan she was supposed to pay LD charges while roaming, but never did. The 'incoming LD' thing is another 'just in case' mention that usually means they don't know what to expect from some of the roaming carriers. The good news about Local plans is that they are like a 'mini' SingleRate plan. You can roam all over your 3-state area and should not see any Roaming charges no matter what system you access. Roaming charges only come into play outside of your Home area, like if you drove to CA. Of course, if you were really concerned about roaming charges, you wouldn't want a Local plan. But in all cases, all charges were either exactly as we expected...or LESS. You are looking at the worst-case scenerio in the disclaimer, and we hear from VERY few users in this group that these charges have ever come up. And if they did, Verizon would usually credit them back. -Bill |

What I'm really concerned is what if I get charged for incoming long distance while I'm in my home area after I blah blah for five hours on weekend minutes? Question three: should you ever get roaming charges in your home geographical coverage area, would they reimburse you by giving them the zip code of the area you were at when the charges occured? Person at *611 said yes, but I don't have much faith in them. | |

Yes, have no fear. The plan is what you expect. You won't be charged roaming. The disclaimers only apply when you leave your home area. Once in a while, stuff happens, and you might get charges, and yes, they'll credit them back and fix the problem. The person you spoke to is correct. -Bill |
