I have a Verizon Local DigitalChoice plan. The contract was setup in Portland OR and the plan covers OR, WA and NW Idaho. I have a Motorola v120c handset w/ PRL 50094 and it indicates roaming(solid triangle) in Eugene. A third party information said: VZW = Verizon native area - no triangle FR = Free roam/extended network - flashing triangle RM = Roaming - solid triangle Is it just not working right or is it that v120c might not be capable of flashing the trinagle? Secondly, if I were to move within the coverage area, how do I get my new area to register as home SID? |

Ignore the roam indicator, since you're on a local plan your calling area map defines your calling area, not the indicator on the phone. As long as you're in your local calling plan area, you're fine If you move within the local calling area, that's no problem, just let Verizon know your new address, phone#, etc., and they will assign you a new number if needed.

He shouldn't, if he's on a local plan, it doesn't matter whose network you are on, as long as you are in your local area, you aren't charged roaming or ld, at least that's the way it is out west.

ILUVSOCAL is right; with the Pacific Northwest Local Digital Choice plan, there is no such thing as roaming so long as you're in the covered geographic location. Don't worry about the bill. However, Verizon has service in Eugene, so this is weird. There are two possibilities for the wonky roam indicator. Either you have a PRL that is out of date/incorrect, or you have your roaming option set incorrectly. Now that Verizon has fixed the 50096 PRL, you can safely update; dial *228 and select the option to "update your roaming capability" to accomplish this. Next, check and ensure that your phone is set to the "Automatic B" roam option. Next time you visit Eugene, it should not indicate that you are roaming. |

Eugene is NOT the same SID as Portland. In fact, it's not even in the same LATA. Eugene, SID 0328, is a legacy US West Cellular market. Shortly before US West (the ILEC now known as Qwest) sold its cellular operation to Airtouch, they completed a market swap with GTE Mobilnet. US West Cellular held the "B" license for San Diego, CA (they had only one "A" license, which was Omaha, Nebraska), and GTE Mobilnet held the "B" license for Portland, OR. US West Cellular and GTE, as a result, were a constant thorn in one another's side, since they each owned territories surrounding the other. Finally, they agreed to swap the territories, and SID 0030 became US West Cellular territory. To this day, the SID 0030 network has markedly different intercepts than other legacy US West Cellular markets. An interesting and fun thing I stumbled upon during a trip to Eugene was the unusual legacy US West Cellular intercepts that still remain throughout the system. For example, try dialling 011-218-21-323114 (a disconnected number in Libya). You'll probably hear an intercept providing instructions about MegaPhone voicemail, a product that has not been branded as MegaPhone since US West Cellular days. |

I was just curious, because before phones with local plans have always shown roam when outside their home SID according to the all roam default PRL, did they change it?

I've seen the AC PRL loaded on handsets subscribed to Local DigitalChoice lately, although that doesn't necessarily mean anything. BTW see additions to the above post.

You do not have to change your number, but you might wish to do so if you require a local number in the place where you have moved. Note that you pay taxes based on where the bill is sent, not where the phone number is issued. This may or may not affect you negatively.

It's not acceptable to tell someone that their post is unacceptable without explaining why the person's post is unacceptable

The reason was highlighted. A lot of people have the same number and I want to be able to stay in touch with my peep, so new number is not acceptable. | |
