Callers calling my ATTWS number get message “the number you have reached has been disconnected and there is no new number”. Recently I was driving from Fresno on a trip to Modesto CA. My ATT GSM phone was working fine in Fresno but went to no service just south of Madera. I continued north to Modesto where I spent several days with no service. I tried several times to call my own cell number from a landline in Modesto. I figured if, I had no service, I would get my voice mail. Instead I got the message that my number has been disconnected. After spending three hours on the phone with the nice people at ATT, they told me there was nothing wrong with my service but they confirmed that everyone calling my number was getting that message. They said the problem was caused by the landline phone company where my cell phone was last logged to the network. Their solution was for me to drive back into an ATT coverage area to fix the problem. This I did and my service did restore as soon as I got back to Fresno. From time to time my friends have told me they have received similar messages when calling my number when I am out of town. Does someone know if this is an ATT problem or true of all carriers? Is ATT correct to blame this on the landline company? Is it true ATT cannot do anything about this problem? |

Gem, I also have encountered the same problem once in Northern Ca. CS looked at the account and said that my phone was forwarding to a disconnected number. They removed call forwarding and delayed call forwarding from the feature set and this took care of the problem. It is still a mystery though as I had not set my calls to forward. I would try posting your thread on HowardsForum. There are a number of active AT&T employee regulars over there. Good Luck!

Yes, I wrote a lengthly review here about those exact spots. However, I DID have coverage in Modesto. Just not in Madera. Supposedly, soon a joint agreement between ATT and CellularOne (the actual operator in Madera) should give ATT customers access to GSM service. CellularOne is still upgrading their systems. Here is what I wrote. |
