Default Roaming to Canada Involuntarily

I have T-Mobile with free Roaming and Long Distance in the United States. When I am in the San Jaun Islands in Northwestern Washington , sometimes my phone roams to Metrocell in Victoria, BC Canada. I have tried to manually find a US cell tower, but have been unsucessful. T-mobile in the past has credited me for my Roaming and Long Distance in these circumstances, And I am now told they will NO longer do that! Are there any State requirements to make them do it? Do other cell companies credit these charges?

They were only crediting as a courtesy... look at it this way: When you call a 900 # from your home phone your local carrier bills you for them. Same principle with cell phones/roaming.

Doesn't your phone show when you are roaming?

If you were in range of Microcell towers but not in range of T-Mobile towers then you are roaming... they don't claim to have 100% coverage and there's always fine print to that effect. There are no laws governing it.

Default Roaming to Canada Involuntarily

On my Verizon and Sprint handsets, I've experienced bleed-over coverage from Canada on certain parts of Orcas Island (Rogers Cantel marine coverage). I've also gotten bleed-over coverage on my Verizon handset from Telus Mobility in the vicinity of Neah Bay, particularly Cape Flattery. The Canadian cell companies have very strong marine coverage; they put towers on buoys just inside Canadian waters. When atmospheric conditions are right, you can bounce to one of their towers instead of your home carrier.

Verizon and Sprint are both totally unsympathetic in the case of "stray" roaming calls. If T-Mobile was giving you credit, consider yourself lucky, and watch that roam indicator in the future!
