I am travelling to San Diego for a conference and would like to use a cellphone there. So now I am looking for the best option how to get a temporary SIM card (pre-paid?). Can anyone recommend me any pre-paid options, or is there an interesting alternative? I can bring a tri-band phone from Germany, but I don't want to use Roaming, since that costs 2 $/min! Thanks in advance Mabuse |

7-11 convenience stores sell the whole prepaid phone package from AT&T. A lot of liquor stores sell the prepaid phone kits. A lot of the big commercial electronic stores sell them too. I don't know of anyone that just sells the Sim Card. Good Luck and enjoy your visit to "Americas Finest City".

You can buy just a SIM card and airtime from T-Mobile. However, this costs nearly as much as just buying a Virgin Mobile handset once you get here ($59), which includes $20 in free starter airtime. The airtime on Virgin Mobile is cheaper than T-Mobile too (especially for international calling). Sprint PCS is the underlying CDMA network, and their coverage is much more extensive than T-Mobile (though in San Diego, T-Mobile should suit you fine).

I think your best bet would be to look at pricing etc. in a 7-11 store, or electronic stores(like kyousif already mentioned) when you get to San Diego. Viel Spass in den Vereinigten Staaten, Andy |
