Default Help with choosing phone/plan

I'm still debating services, AT&T has really frustrated me with repeated poor customer service, but they may be the best for coverage and cost. anyway, I have a Nokia 6160, no complaints except there are updated features to be had now. On the web there are 2 possibilities for a NEW member - the 3560 or the 2260. what is annoying is that it's free to new customers, but to me they want to charge $45.00 (after rebates) for the 3560. The 2260 would be free. If I keep my 6160, they'll give me 50 extra anytime minutes a month, or one free month of service. How generous.

So, to you all - firstly, what do you know and have to say about these phones? Secondly, know of a better game in town? Does it usually pay to go to other than the provider? Thanks!

Donna,

It is common for carriers to offer better deals to first-time subscribers. That is how they get new business. You likely got a first-timer deal yourself.

Perform a search in the Nokia forum for the models you are asking about.

Actually, when you consider the full (totally unsubsidzied cost) of a wireless phone, it IS pretty generous. After all, as I've repeatedly said, just go to a retail outlet and try to find a cordless phone for under a $100. Then consider how much more serviceability you get with wireless.

You're absolutely right. I just want some goodies for being a loyal customer for 8 years, and for being stupid enough to stay with the same company despite the many many CS errors and then billing problems I've had over the last 2 years. It's like I want to be compensated now! Have you fopund you can get a better plan online vs from the primary company? Thanks

Wireless number portability is just around the corner, and I bet that a lot of carriers will be offering marketing incentives to customers jumping ship. I'm going to take full advantage when the time comes to get as much out as possible out of Verizon (or, if they offer me nothing, I'll ditch them--they're annoying even though their network is good). You may want to hang onto your current phone and plan, if you want to try for a better deal later.
