I posted this in the Samsung area, but thought I'd try this forum as well. I live in the San Fernando Valley and would like to purchase the a530 as my next phone. I am worried about the lack of ananlog coverage. I mostly use the phone in the LA/San Fernando Valley but also spend some time in Napa. Does anyone have any input about the a530 in these particular areas? Or any input that might be helpful? I am a Verizon customer and plan on taking advantage of the 15 day policy but am worried that I won't get to test it out in all the places I want before purchasing. Thanks in advance for your help!!!! |

i have the same problem except that i'm getting the lg vx6000, which is also digital and no analog. and i'm also in the valley. i've read other post on the a530 and i hear it's not that great, but only you can tell since you have one to actually see. well take advantage of those 15 days, i already tried the audiovox9500, lg vx4400, and tomorrow the gl vx6000. let me know how your a530 works out.

just noticed you don't even have the a530 yet. but do like i did, try it out in the parking lot lower level, inside bldngs, at the mall, and see how signal is, i try my lg vx4400 and audiovox 9500 at the third lower level in the parking lot at work and they both work great, i'm going to do the same thing with the lg6000, if i can't make a call with it, it's going back, 'cause what good is a phone that looks good if you can't make calls with it, especially if you're stranded somewhere in the mojave dessert where there is alot of analog service only.

I don't reside in sunny Cal but I do have input. Try the A530. My local VZN store sales guy gave me the 'digital only' warning. I bought it anyway and love it. Do keep in mind your life style. If you go camping in the middle of nowhere, you may not always have a signal. Most likely in the major corridors you'll be fine. I agree with djtonye, use your 15 days and see what happens. If it turns out that you need/want analog, the LG VX4400 is a very good phone. Good luck. Post It. |

I would never travel the west without analog, mostly because some of the OTHER carriers aren't CDMA digital, and may never be, like AT&T and several Cellular One's. But if you only travel up and down 101 or I-5, no problemo. -Bill | |

Same goes for trains, I have been all over California on Amtrak, and have yet to find a spot without digital service, even in the remote part of the Sierra's.

Good choice Halfpint. Let us know what you think. As for the VX6000, would it really be a better phone? If so, why? If it is an all digital version of the VX4400 than it would be good. But does a 0.3 mp camera really add value? Or for that matter, take a decent picture? To me it seems like more of a gimmick that would just get old after a while. I'll stick with my phone and compact digicam (for now). Post It. |

I live in Ventura County but travel all over the Valley and LA, then only place I pick up analog is when I am in the mountains above Orange County and Pasadena, all the rest of the time I have my Vx4400 forced into CDMA only, I was just in Michigan roaming with Alltel and was in an area that was analog only so the analog of the Vx4400 was good to have, if not for that I would have either the a530 or the Vx6000
