i bought an lg vx-4400 from a local guy. the phone was activated and everything is working fine. i have no receipt that i purchased this phone and the only thing that im guessing can identify it is the ESN. i have insurance and since i spent $250 on this phone i want to make sure insurance will cover it in the event something happens (hopefully not). - will i have any problems making a claim on this phone with no invoice? - verizons insurance (lockline) should be able to tell what phone i have through my esn right? - the only other proof that verizon knows i have this phone is when i gave them the number after the "DEC" (whatever that means), does this confirm the make and model of my lg with verizon or lockline? well thanks in advance to anyone who can help. oh yeah i did a search but had no luck. thanks again. |

The answer is YES, you can identify the make and model of a wireless device with just the ESN. The first 3 numbers of the DEC determine the manufacturers code then the rest of it tlls the serial # of the phone hence its model
