Default Sprint Free & Clear Across America (with Vision)

Cool, that's good to know Larry, it gives some more options for this area, though the lack of data features not working off of Sprint's network here would be a big minus, especially for me(to be fair, Verizon's data features don't work when roaming on Sprint, or any other network). Verizon is indeed Sprint's preferred roaming partner in Lake and Mendocino Counties, I know of several people who live in Santa Rosa and come up here, and their Sprint phones automatically go to Verizon's CDMA network here. As far as I know from talking with Sprint and Radio Shack reps, they've always(they were previoulsy GTE, and before that, Contel Cellular here)been the preferred roaming partner here. With US Cellular completing their CDMA overlay of the TDMA network here by the end of this summer, that will give additional CDMA coverage in Lake and Mendocino Counties, it'll be nice not to have to roam analog on them anymore!

Yeah this is great news! I predicted over a year ago they would eventually bring out something like this and I was right. I bet the Verizon people are going to be bitter when they hear about this.

Larry,

thats great news that sprintpcs is going to have more coverage than verizon I have the 30.00 plan for 300 mins and unlmited night and weekends with no vison, would that still apply on that new sprintpcs america plan or do I have to resign a new contract in order to get that new plan? How would sprintpcs pay for all that good coverage to put up more cell sites? would they have to increase the monthly plan in order to pay for the cell sites? Would you also have to get a new phone in order do get that new america plan? Also when will sprintpcs will have the PPT (push to talk) that be great if they had that with all that coverage it be verizon and nextel. Thats great that sprintpcs has more coverage all around the US states

Sprint won't have to put up more cell sites. The coverage will be provided by other carriers who Sprint has roaming agreements with such as Verizon, AT&T and Alltel. Sprint's own coverage has finally expanded enough to the point where they can afford to offer these type of plans now. They think that there will be much less need for off network roaming now than in the past. You will need to change your plan and sign a new one year contract for this new offer.

Larry,

thats good news! Would I have to get a new phone for this new plan of service? If anyone gets this new america plan, would they have to upgdate their PRL? Right now I have my settings to sprintpcs only because I don't wana get charged for roaming. Would I just set it to automatic to roam, even though that you won't be charged for roaming? I plan on getting this plan. Its about time that sprintpcs did this. I knew one of these days it would expand really big. When do sprintpcs plan on getting the PPT (Push To talk) Larry? That be really nice than sprintpcs would be # 1 in coverage. Their plans that I saw on that link is kinda high, but its worth it to have more coverage than they used to Larry what do you think about the new america plan coverage and plans? Is it worth considering? I think it is

Larry,

I fogot one more thing. If a person had the $10.00 roaming option, would that carry over to the new america plan? I don't have this option though, but some people might. My only thing about sprintpcs is I think they should have the PPT (push to talk) than it be great for everyone.

No it would not carry over. You would need to start a whole new plan.

No you would not have to get a new phone or update your PRL. I don't know when the PTT will be offered. Personally I don't need to switch to one of these new plans because I don't roam very often. I guess it depends on where and how much you travel whether you need it.

Larry,

I just went to my local sprintpcs store, and I asked them about this new plan, and they told me they don't know if this new america plan is going to happen. I gave them the new map of the america plan, and he thought it was verizon, but I told him it's not, than when he looked at it he was like uh I don't know. I told him the new plan is going to be released april 7th. He told me he dont' know any info about this. Larry, if you had a choice between the new sprintpcs america plan or verizon wirless plan which one would u chose? Well hope this new plan does exists soon, I think it's great that now sprintpcs has more coverage than any wireless provider. I think its a good idea to get this, just in case there was a emergency. WHen do you expect this plan to take affect? is april 7th this year or next year?

Bitter, nah, I'm extremely happy with Verizon and besides, Sprint doesn't have service here, so it won't affect this market at all. I call Sprint the ghost company LOL They've had a license for this market(Lake and Mendocino Counties, CA)for years now, but have yet to build out.

No offense intended but they prioritize their buildout schedule according to profitability of the area. If they are waiting this long it is likely they figure they aren't going to see much traffic through there.

Actually, they would see tons of traffic through here. While the population is low(85,000 in Mendocino County, 60,000 in Lake County), this is a huge tourist draw(Redwoods, Vineyards, Salmon, Steelhead, Bass and Trout fishing, Skunk Train, Coastal), so we get a huge amount of tourists that come through and stay here every year. Not to mention this is the main route between Eureka, the Southern Oregon Coast and SF, all of which do have Sprint service. In fact, we get a huge amount of bay area traffic(we are less than 2 hours from SF, and about an hour from Santa Rosa), so I was very surprised to see them build out in Eureka, which, while being a larger city then Ukiah, is much more isolated from any big population centers(it's 5 hours during good weather from SF to Eureka), and is in worse economic shape. Also, there are quite a large amount of people(and that number grows all the time)who live in Lake and Mendocino Counties and commute to Santa Rosa, and even SF every day. It would actually make much more sense to cover this area Maybe it's because Eureka is a Ubiquetel affiliate market, perhaps if Sprint would sell this market to them and we'd get built out sooner. If you look at Sprints coverage, Eureka is all by itself, with no Sprint service for hundreds of miles around, that is about how isolated it is from the rest of the North Coast, and when slides occure on 101, which they do often(in fact, 101 was closed for weeks this year due to a huge slide at Confusion Hill), it really becomes cut off(except for 199 and 299, but those are LONG detours to get south, and I mean LONG).

Yeah but Ubiquitel already has it's hands full with their upcoming plans to build out in their Montana markets. Even that isn't expected to launch until sometime in mid to late 2004.

Hey Mike are you still moving back to So. Cal? I remember you mentioned that a while back.

So does this mean that Sprint now has the best digital coverage? Will this plan have better digital coverage than the America's Choice plan?

They will be pretty closely matched but Sprint will have more overall coverage (both analog & digital) than Verizon's AC plans offer.

Yep, still planning to move back to So Cal next summer or fall, I can't wait! I am getting pretty excited, and my parents want to move back eventually too, I'm their baby lol That Sprint deal looks awesome by the way, too bad they don't cover this area as those new plans are very tempting and indeed include more coverage then the AC plans, but like I said, I am extremely happy with Verizon, and I rarely if ever leave CA or NV, so the Verizon local digital choice plans suit us great, and we don't pay any roaming or ld anywhere in CA or NV regarless of whose network we are on. Just curious, since they are licensed to serve this area, I guess technically I could go sign up with them in Santa Rosa and with these new plans, this area would be included in my minutes, that sound right? Verizon is 100% digital in this area too, so I guess my caller id would work, but probably not Sprint data features(sms, Vision, etc.) Also, will they do any kind of family share on these new plans?

Well, as fas as their "Own" digital coverage I think Sprints got them beat, but that's from my own experience. I mean come on, that's all Sprints has had to rely on, so they've had to compensate for that by building more "Digital" towers. Hey, when I had Verizon all I did was roam off Sprint, especially in Arizona. So I had no choice but to get rid of them, Verizon relies on way to many different carriers to keep their coverage above the rest. Now the tables have turned and I'm waiting to see how many Verizon customers jump ship!!

Well I based my comment on the fact that by the end of summer all of Verizon's own towers will be digital too, just like Sprint's.

As for jumping ship...why? The Sprint plan costs $5 more than the AC plan, and while more area is covered, the AC plan hits almost everywhere you would probably want to use your phone. If Verizon's AC plan doesn't cover where you call the most you hopefully wouldn't have signed up for it anyway. I can see the Sprint plan taking new customers away from Verizon (which is good for Verizon customers because they will probably have to offer some new incentives now that they have more competition), but I don't honestly see great hordes of Verizon customers running out to their nearest Sprint store. I sure won't be switching until Sprint manages to build enough towers that I can actually use my Sprint phone (indoors would be nice!) as my only phone like I have done with USCC and Verizon. If that day ever com
