Those huge rebates on Amazon.com are sure enticing. The free Sony Ericson and the Free Motorola T720i w. Camera are both TMobile GSM phones. How is Tmobile's GSM coverage compared to AT&T's GSM coverage in the Bay Area, mostly South Bay. And if anyone has ordered a phone from Amazon how long did it take to get your rebate.

I have T-Mobile and work in the Bay Area (Oakland, actually). I haven't had any problems with it, other than way-the-he!!-and-gone up in the hills of Berkeley, America's Second Most NIMBY-fied city.

One word of caution: you are headed for certain disappointment if you get that Sony Ericsson. It is well known (check other posts here, and in the Sony forum here, and on Howard Forums) that the T68 series have absolutely the worst RF performance evar. (That means p!ss-poor reception.)

The T720 is a neat little phone. Check the Moto forum here to get reviews - bear in mind that Verizon's version of the T720 is different to the GSM version, and by all accounts the GSM version is better.

Don't know much on SF coverage, but ZaphodB is right about both the phones. The posts & reviews on the T68i have been horrible.

Trust me you don't want the SE T68i. That phone is a Piece of s***. So many people complain about the poor RF on it.

I have an SE T300 which I will be using on Cingular on GSM 1900, should I anticipate any problems when I'm back home in the Redwood City area? Supposedly, the T300's RF is better than the T68's.

Nokia 3650 has bluetooth and is available now from TM for $199 after rebate, and maybe from AT&T too. Looks different though....

I haven't heard many complaints about the T300... but then again I've never seen one in use. I also don't have much data on the Peninsula... I go as far as the Daly City BART stop [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] I'm much more of a Beastie these days, and I used to work in the City. (beast = east-bay)

Coverage for TM/Cing on 280 and 101 is very good. I work regularly in Menlo Park / Sand Hill Road (basically next exit). Coverage in this area is also good. For Redwood City I have only limited data. It works good in the main traffic areas but I could imagine that you run into trouble if you have one of that really fancy homes further in the "woods"...

I haven't been over to the East Bay in a long time, I am Peninsula-born and bred lol. But this summer I will be interning at KTVU so the T300 will get a lot of field experience back home. I will be glad to fill in some missing gaps anyone may want some more info on. The SE T300 is the European cousin to the SE T306, the T300 is designed to work on GSM 900/1800/1900 whereas the T306 is designed for the North American GSM market at GSM 850/1800/1900 [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]. But other than that both phones have the same features.

I'll keep everyone here on WA and on Howard's Forums posted.

No thank goodness I don't have a sprawling mansion in Atherton, a regular house in Redwood City is good enough [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]. I am very familiar with Sand Hill and that stretch of 280 in particular since I spent part of my childhood (about 14 years ago) growing up in Portola Valley just off Alpine Road. But I am glad to have be from the Bay Area, the traffic's not always a blessing on 101 especially between Willow Road/University Ave. and all the way down toward Sunnyvale [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]. But 280's a beautiful stretch up between Magdalena Ave and Woodside Road.

And then there's the Nokia 6310i. Tri-band, GPRS, Bluetooth, huge battery life, etc...

No color screen, more of a business phone. Got an unlocked (never-locked) one from eBay for $225, and have used it here and internationally with no problems.

There have been reports of problems using the Nokia SW on PCs without the Nokia Bluetooth card, but I guess that would effect all Nokia phones.
