Default Verizon Wireless Expands Network in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties

I post in peace...

Verizon Wireless Expands Network in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties, Building an Even Stronger Network

New Cell Sites Debut in Studio City and Carmel Mountain Ranch

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- In its continuing effort to
provide the most reliable wireless service in southern California, Verizon
Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network,
has expanded its network with key cell sites in Los Angeles and San Diego
counties.
"Customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us because they know
they'll get wireless service they can depend on," said John Palmer, regional
president of Verizon Wireless. "The company's $600 million investment in its
premier wireless network in California in 2005 demonstrates Verizon Wireless's
commitment to customer satisfaction."
The Verizon Wireless network team recently built a new cell site near
North Hollywood Park in the city of Studio City, California in Los Angeles
County. The new site not only boosts the network's call capacity, but also
provides additional coverage for motorists on the busy freeway interchange
that connects the 101 Highway, 170 Highway and 134 Highway. Residents in
nearby neighborhoods will also benefit from this increased call capacity and
coverage.
The company also installed a new cell site south of Carmel Mountain Ranch
Community Park in a subdivision of San Diego, Calif. The new cell site
increases coverage along Highway 56 between Shoal Creek Drive and before
Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard. In addition, the new site also increases
network coverage along Interstate 15 between Carmel Mountain Road and Poway
Road.
These new cell sites are part of Verizon Wireless' multi-billion dollar
network investment each year to stay ahead of growing demand in southern
California for the company's popular voice and data services, including V CAST
and TXT Messaging, Picture Messaging, BroadbandAccess wireless Internet access
and Get It Now(R) ring tones, games, productivity applications and more.
Demand for Verizon Wireless services was high in the third quarter of 2005
as the company added 1.9 million net new customers -- more than any other U.S.
wireless provider. Additionally, Verizon Wireless has been recognized
consistently as the leader in the U.S. wireless industry, not only for its
network coverage, products and services, but also for its customer service and
loyalty. In the third quarter of 2005 alone, Verizon Wireless posted the
lowest customer churn rate -- 1.3% -- among national carriers and topped key
third-party surveys of customer satisfaction.
These recent improvements in Southern California are part of Verizon
Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and enhance the quality of
its wireless voice and data network. Verizon Wireless has regularly invested
more than $4 billion nationally each year since its inception -- and more than
$5 billion in the first nine months of 2005 alone -- to expand and upgrade its
nationwide wireless network.
The company's 'most reliable network' claim is based on network studies
performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country who
inspired the "Can you hear me now? Good(R)" national advertising campaign.
These engineers conduct more than 300,000 call attempts monthly on Verizon
Wireless' and other national carriers' networks while traveling over
100,000 miles a month in specially equipped, company-owned test vehicles.

About Verizon Wireless

voice network, serving 49.3 million voice and data customers. Headquartered

Verizon Wireless Network Expansions in Southern California Give Customers Something to Talk About

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- In its continuing effort to provide
the most reliable wireless service in southern California, Verizon Wireless,
owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has
expanded its network with key cell sites in San Bernardino and San Diego
Motorists and residents in San Bernardino County, Calif. are now
experiencing increased coverage thanks to a new Verizon Wireless cell site in
the city Chino Hills. The site provides additional coverage along Highway 71,
extending from Big League Dreams Sports Park in the south and to the Chino
Hills Parkway exit in the north. The new cell site also greatly improves
coverage and call capacity for residents in the neighborhoods near Danbury
Park.
Verizon Wireless also recently brought into service a new cell site near
Lake Poway in San Diego County. The new site not only provides call volume
relief for a cell site nearby, but also significantly improves coverage in
several communities east of Espola Road and in the residential areas around
Poway High School.
These new cell sites are part of Verizon Wireless' multi-billion dollar
network investment each year to stay ahead of growing demand in southern
California for the company's popular voice and data services, including V CAST
and TXT Messaging, Picture Messaging, BroadbandAccess wireless Internet access

I know the location of the one in Chino Hills, CA. I saw it a few weeks ago when I was driving through the 71. It's mounted on an Edison tower.

I wish Sprint would still put out these type of news releases. They stopped doing that in 2001 and keep all network improvements private now.

But you know what's the bad thing about these press releases: Carriers that still do them, definitely don't do them for every new cellsite they put on the air, so even though I guess it is nice, they are still not an accurate view of how many cellsites a carrier ads. Of course we have seen Cingular put out exact number and IMO either put out exact numbers/all new cellsites or just keep it private. Do I make sense, larry?

I've definitely noticed the improvement on the 170 and Magnolia. Now if they'd hurry up with the tower at Fulton and Vanowen, that would be awesome.

And jones... Verizon has by far the best coverage in Southern California, mostly because Airtouch had towers up in the hills and the rich neighbourhoods (like Studio City) before the NIMBYs started complaining about health hazards. Adding those two towers is big news indeed -- the Studio City Residents' Association hasn't allowed a tower in the 91604 ZIP code in nearly three years.

Actually, if I had to rank the carriers by coverage in LA, it'd probably be Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile (formerly Cingular Orange), Cingular Blue, José Garcia's Three-Tower Wireless, Dolphin Chirp Cellular, semaphore flagmen, two cups and a string, Nextel.

I have to say I don't get the news release for two new cell sites either.

Yeah it doesn't make sense to put out a news release for only two cell sites.

I agree. Carriers should publicize new sites more often.

I'll post a more general thread on the subject, but working in site development, I'm mystified at the lack of hype associated with new sites we put on the air.

I think Cingular is doing a good job, though. They put out news releases stating exactly how many new cellsites they put on the air in a certain area/state. That's what every carrier should do in my opinion.

I really think that Dolphin Chirp Cellular is as good as T-Mobile, in Cali.

I have tried Dolphin Chirp Cellular and cannot recommend them because their data services are too slow and they charge too much for unlimited text messaging. T-Moblie is better for that reason.
