A few weeks ago I posted how I went through Meeker Colorado and spotted an odd analog A band carrier on my Verizon phone. Well I figured out it was a single tower by Commnet Wireless (or maybe Commnet Cellular) I get them mixed up. But anyway they have a license only in Rio Blanco County because of an unserved area rule...blah blah blah. Anyways, I drove through there today and I spotted digital (IS-95) on the same A band in the same area. The message said "Lyrix Wireless" I thought they served Iowa!? I switched back to A band analog and again got the Commnet signal I mentioned above. Can two different carriers serve on the same band? Just one analog and the other digital. And yes they were both on A band.! Thoughts anyone? Oh and the analog signal (Commnet) was SID 6531. The "Lyrix" signal was on SID 3002.

That's weird...Did it show roaming or Extended Network on your phone? the A band should belong to the same carrier, meaning that the digital and AMPS signal on the same band have to be the same carrier...maybe BillRadio can chime in. |

The phone showed Roaming. Commnet holds the license to this county due to that unserved area rule when Verizon never put anything there. B side is served by Union Cellular and has a site in Meeker i think. But i was on A side im sure of it. It was just two different SIDS and recordings, Commnet on analog and "Lyrix" on digital.

SID 3002 is a Commnet Wireless SID used mainly in Arizona (far southwestern Maricopa County, Ajo, etc.) Still, the Lyrix recordings are odd -- I wonder if Commnet has contracted with Lyrix to do their CDMA instead of running it off their Yuma switch, or if Lyrix is running off a Commnet switch! BillRadio and agentHibby, any ideas? Yes, 3002 by virtue of being an even number is really a B-side SID, and Commnet IS the B licensee in the parts of Arizona where they are 850, but there have been an increasing number of violations of the "odd = A, even = B" rule lately, and not just by them. -SC

This happens in Wyoming too. Another guess is that Commnet is tring to route you call the customers wireless service provider. Somehow instead of sending it to Verizon it sends the call to Lyrix. I might call Lyrix and see what they have to say. Usally when I ask these things with them, they think I am nuts and hung up on me.

With some confidence, I found that CommNet uses Lyrix's switch for all CDMA calls.

Another oddity in Meeker, CO, and a few other surrounding communities, is the presence of a PCS carrier, UB-ET Wireless. I think they are CDMA, and are higher in priority in Verizon's PRL than either Commnet or Western Wireless, but my phone's never seen it. Priority 2 01858 PCS FRM UBET Wireless SCAN 325D 375D 350D 725E 750E 775E Priority 3 01741 D/A FRM Western Wireless CMA677A Utah 5 - Carbon Priority 4 04180 PCS FRM Sprint PCS SCAN 675B 500B 600B MTA036 Salt Lake City, UT-ID-WY-NV-OR Priority 5 01858 (A) FRM UBET Wireless CMA677B Utah 5 - Carbon 01173 D/A FRM United States Cellular CMA390A Idaho 3 - Lemhi CMA392A Idaho 5 - Butte CMA393A Idaho 6 - Clark 06531 (A) FRM Commnet Wireless CMA348A Colorado 1 - Moffat CMA720A Wyoming 3 - Lincoln |

I might can add something to that. The 1858 isnt the PCS SID for Colorado. The few times ive tinkered and forced my phone onto UBET. It comes up some SID in the 5400's I cant remember right it right now. But UBET only has sites in Meeker, Dinosaur, Rangely, and from Craig to Steamboat. Thats about 7 sites if that much and thats it!!! They have a piss poor network in Colorado. So that 1858 must only be in Utah around Vernal or Roosevelt. Thats my guess anyway.

UBET is free roam isn't it? Not sure if I've asked you this before, but how well built out is UBET's network?

No UBET does not have a license to cover Bare Lake. Hoping one day VZW build some towers out there. They are the only national provider that does not have a network there. |

Sprint has a network there, right? Verizon should roam on that for free. Anyways, I want to go to NorthEastern Utah soon to check out UBET's coverage there as nobody seems to know where they cover exactly. |
