Default Verizon Wireless NW of Portland OR

Does anyone know if Verizon Wireless works in Vernonia, Oregon (97064)? There is an AT&T tower there but don't know if Verizon would roam on it.

Verizon Wireless is heavily marketed around Portland, and Vernonia is 45 miles away over the hills.

That would be a tough one to tell unless you have personal experience in the area. It looks like there might a tower covering the town only, but that's just the best I could come up with looking at the coverage locator. Looks like an AC1 plan would roam there, but AC2 will not. Coverage in this area seems hit and miss.

Neither AC I nor AC II will roam on the Cingular Blue (former ATTWS) Portland system. You can pick it up manually on an AC I handset if you switch to Automatic A roaming mode, but there is no roaming agreement on the back end so your calls won't go through.

That being said, VZW does have solid coverage along the Sunset Highway (US 26) all the way west from Portland to the Cannon Beach Junction. Chances are good that you'll have coverage in Vernonia, but you'll want to verify for yourself before you subscribe to any service with the intent of using it there.
