Im 18. No credit. I currently own 2 phone lines on verizon. I was forced to put down $400 EACH line as a security deposit. Now i want to get a broadband card. I simply cannot afford another $400 and franky, $1200 down is absolutely absurd. I imagine it's physically impossible to use $1200 worth of verizon services anyway. Im in the U.S. Army and currently stationed at a training post in Maryland. I have a stable paycheck and my payment history with verizon (only 2 months) is perfect. Is there anyway I can convince them to waiver the security deposit on the internet card? Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Austin |

It will be very difficult / almost impossible to get them to drop the deposit. Another option is to go with a pre-paid mobile broadband card so you don't have to deal with contracts or deposits. What part of Maryland are you in and where do you plan on using the card? Both Cricket and Virgin Mobile have some really good deals going right now... |

I'm at Aberdeen Proving Ground/Edgewood Arsenal. I looked up Cricket and was amazed at their deal. Unlimited bandwidth for only $40 and no contract or deposit, just gotta buy the modem. Sound incredible compared to verizon. How can verizon compete with that? Looks like on the 15th (every soldier's favorite day of the month) i'll order one. Thanks for the idea.

Keep in mind that most broadband cards aren't "unlimited". After you hit a 5GB threshold they usually start to cut your bandwidth (i know cricket does this) or they will charge you per megabyte over 5GB (verizon does this). Some people have complained about cricket's network in the past citing congestion and slow speeds. Experiences have varied. Virgin mobile runs on Sprint's network. I was in Aberdeen/Havre de Grace recently and I found that Sprint's network worked great up there. Just a few things to keep in mind when considering services. Quote:
