"They" won't have to let him. All he needs is the device unlocked & he can use it with any GSM SIM in the US & elsewhere.

VZW isn't going to allow GSM roaming in the US, but you can unlock the SIM slot and use any service you want.

I might consider looking at this device or the rumored (HTC Whitestone (Verizon version). I really miss WM and the ability to 'hack" my phone. Also, the new WM 6.5 that comes out in October looks enticing to me. Plus I would have the ability to switch between a BB or WM device.

I still don't think that's a viable option, unless you plan on flashing a new ROM on the device. Its probably got the OS and the BT functionality crippled out of the box. Remember we are talking about a Verizon branded device.

That is why I am waiting on reviews before I make a decision. If not, then at least I can have a WM device where I can have the ability to install a greater variety of programs (especially with Windows Marketplace for Mobile), watch my Slingbox via SlingPlayer Mobile, and have native flash support in the browser.

Jay, are you going to switch to the TP2 on AT&T when it comes out?

Actually, from the comments of new users of this phone on the Verizon site, this phone is not crippled like the first Touch Pro. Which is surprising considering this is a Verizon phone...

Of course, when in comes to the WM 6.5 update, that might be crippled.

Also, this might be my new phone when my NE2 upgrade eligibility comes up November 25th.

This phone has every capability of the Sprint version. Verizon appears to have stopped the crippling of smartphones. WiFi, GPS, BT are all open more or less on the newer batch of smartphones.

I just ordered the HTC Touch Pro2 for Verizon online. It came with free overnight shipping, so I may have it tomorrow (depends when it is processed and ships). I can't wait! I have missed WM.
