Default Verizon/Onstar

You used to be able to connect your GM Onstar calling to a Verizon family plan. Why did it end? I searched on the internet and all I found was that it ended last month. Does anyone know why it was discontinued?

I don't know the reason why, but suspect strongly it was to do with the weakening postion of Government.....errr, General Motors.

Hi all, I am Wylie the Hands Free Calling Service Line Manager from OnStar. I noticed this question and wanted to jump in to provide you with an answer. First, rest assured, the disconuation of this program has nothing to do with the government and it's position either weak or strong. After many discussions with Verizon and about 5 years of offering the program we mutally decided for business reasons to begin the process of not offering this program. Basically, now we are not taking any new enrollments, however those that have it now can continue to use it. I do encourage you to have a look at some of our other bundle offers and to stay tuned for some interesting new bundles coming soon.

Here is a web site with information on OnStar Hands Free Calling.

Thanks for the reply. I did not think it was because of the government being weak or strong. I think it is funny and makes a good cynical political point and sounds like something sarcastic I would say and not believe to make a bigger point, but I know that is not the reason and I doubt he believes that to.

I new it was business reasons from the start. Every decision a corporation does is. I was just wondering why those "business reasons" were when I asked on here. I am sure that your company would have your job if you started disclosing confidential info like that so I won't even ask you.

Thanks for the information. I am just curious. Are the prices per minute still listed on the website? The link for the prices on the website takes you back to the main hands free calling page. I like to keep a consent comparison of wireless prices around for gee whiz information. Thanks.

Simon,

Thanks for the understanding. To see the HFC pricing on the web you have to log in with your account and zipcode. Once logged in you will be able to see all the HFC bundles available to you. One of our more popular bundles gives you 100 minutes for 12 monhts at $39.99. Of course there are additional taxes and fees based on your mailing address. There are other exclusive offers and bundles that you can see once logged on.

Have a great week!
-Wylie

I asked the same question of Verizon. They sent me to On Star. I got the same basic reason. It was a business decision (some what evasive). It seems to me that if you compare what you pay for minutes on your Verizon plan versus what On Star wants for minutes, you are probably better off investing in a bluetooth for your cell phone. I believe On Star will need to become more competitive in the wireless market on the per minute charges for me to turn off my bluetooth.
