Angry Your Verizon Wireless software purchases will not be transferrable to a new phone

On 5/27/09 I purchased a game through Verizon Wireless Get it Now. I downloaded it to my VX9900 original enV.

On 6/9/09 I upgraded my cellphone on Verizons new every two deal. The game I purchased is not allowed to be credited to my account, it is not allowed to be 'retrieved' under the new "My Media: Media Retrieval" program on their web page.

I could understand them saying 'no retrieval allowed' if the purchase is more than XX days old, but this is only 2 weeks since I purchased the most recent game, I've used it about an hour. I had already called Tech support about it a few days ago and they explained that the online retrieval method was the proper way to get this application restored. I go there, and all applications are disabled.

My wife then calls the Verizon support number and this immediately produces an argument from the support person about how you don't remove the radio in the car when you trade it in (which is a WRONG example: I just removed the aftermarket JVC KD-G420 car stereo which she had Best Buy install in her older car). The next example from Verizon support was just as bad: not being able to install the same game on a second computer (again, a WRONG example: my wife tells Verizon that her son plays World of Warcraft which is a game that only cares about you having only one subscription only being used by one PC at a time, the DVD full of software software can be installed on any number of PCs).

In your Verizon cellphone, when you research whatever detail they offer about the game or application which you may WANT to download, you NEVER get a warning that the application CANNOT be transferred to a NEW phone.

Acttually you DO get a warning. I took this straight from the Verizon Wireless website dealing with Features and Downloads Terms and Conditions:

"You agree: (1) to use Applications only on the phone to which they are downloaded, even if downloaded pursuant to an unlimited or other long-term agreement and no transfers, credits or refunds are permitted; (2) not to (i) harass, offend, threaten, embarrass, distress or invade the privacy of any individual or entity; (ii) provide false information or impersonate another person; and/or (iii) take any action that infringes upon any third-party’s copyright, trademark, patent or other intellectual property right(s); and (3) agree to Get It Now License Agreement between you and each application developer. "

That lays it all out. Now I expect you'll say you never read that, but it is not VZW's fault that you did not due YOUR due diligence in this matter. They put that stuff out there with the understanding that you will look at what you are getting into before diving in headfirst.

Angry Apple Comes to Mind!

I feel your pain and lost several things during a warranty replacement.

I have to wonder why they offer a site that shows the applications you bought but blocks the content from being restored. All I can say is it gives hope only to take it away. I have several VZW friends who can't restor new items on the same phone. What gives???

I think they took a lesson from APPLE! You buy music from APPLE yet its never yours to keep. Well unles you only use their hardware/their software.

We keep feeding the criminals. A dollar here a Dollar there.

It's just not right!

FYI: You can hijack those ringtones back by playing them in your web browser, looking in the temporary internet files, grab the mp3's from the temp file, email them to your phone as <name.MP>.
As of 2009-07 the firmware once upgraded doesn't allow MP3's to be saved as ring tones.
MP3's get converted to aac files and these can't be saved as ringtones (not on my fones). But if you send them via email <number @ vzwpix . com> as an (*.mp) file (change the extension only from mp3 to mp). you now have two options - save as ringtone, and save as ringer id. They will automatically become My Sounds.
Phones are: ancient Motorola V325 and Z6TV.

Enjoy!!

keep in mind, any answer you get from a verizon cs rep is only as good as the person who gave it to you. What I mean by this is that ther are times my wife has called with a problem and been unsatisfied with the answer. I would call them, talk too a different rep and get a much better or completely different reply. Or visa versa. I think you get my meaning

splpsn, I do understand, as my wife has worked sales at 2 huge chain stores and her positions involved customer service, so she knows the methods.

The refund did arrive as a credit to the account, but why the "we never refund" policy in the first place? I'm not going to carry and charge the old phone just so I can play the games I've purchased, so this is a rubbish policy. The software subscription policy also leaves a lot to be desired. Just more fuel for June 2011 when I'm up for renewal.
