Question Contract ending & switching question

Hello all,

My contract with Verizon ends on 5/3/09 and I'm switching to AT&T (only because I'm getting an iPhone and because it's my fiancee's provider and we'll be on the family plan to save some $).

So here's my question: When do I call Verizon to tell them I am not renewing my plan and that I need to carry over my phone number? 5/3/09 or later or earlier?

Or, do I just do all of this in the Apple Store when I get my new phone and they take care of all the details?

Thanks a million.

Hello & Welcome to WA.

I am not positive about how the Apple Store handles it. If you go to an AT&T store after your contract with Verizon is over, they will take care of all the porting details. You will need to show them your bill from Verizon so they can get all the account details from it.

Do not cancel with Verizon, then you your number cannot be ported out.

Hope that made sense.

Glad to help. . The Apple Store would probably do the same thing but I do not know for sure.

This was probably a bad idea since Verizon is most likely getting the I-Phone next year. Just something to think about since they are currently in negotiations.
