Default Hate my phone

I bought my latest phone about 7 months ago, and I absolutely hate it. I am constantly hitting buttons while it is my pocket, and the lock on it only works for some of the buttons. I want to get a new phone, but don't feel like paying full price for a replacement phone. Anyone have any suggestions for how to get a different phone without paying $300 for one?

BTW, I have the Samsung SCH-u540

If the phone is defective, you should go to a store... Enough complaining and or problems may yield you a FRU or a different phone model.

If you signed a 2 year contract and meet certain conditions, you could upgrade to a different phone 5 months from now. This Annual upgrade is subject to a fee and resets your New Every Two date and renews your contract for another 2 years.

If you signed a 1 year contract, hang in there for 3 more months and you can upgrade fee free and get promotional pricing....

If waiting isn't an option, there's always eBay and the like...

I used to have the SCH-u540 from Samsung until April. By that time, I had replaced the battery once and the phone itself twice. I was on my third replacement when I pretty much told Verizon at that point it was either lose me as a customer or find me another phone. Honestly, I wasn't that harsh. And in reality, I don't think they would have helped me had I been such a major pain in the ___.

The conversation pretty much went down like this:

Guys, I'm on my third phone! Help! I keep having these problems with every u540 you issue to me. I don't want you to think that I'm trying to pull a fast one. I'll gladly go into a corporate shop and have a tech on site look at the phone and confirm my findings.

And at that point, the phone started having some strange audio problems. For once, Verizon could actually hear the problems that I was having and I was no longer crazy. After speaking with a supervisor, they were able to get me in with an LG VX8350 - a much better phone in my honest [yet humble] opinion. Try Craig's List for local sellers looking to get rid of their Verizon phones - this way you can actually test the phone out before you proceed with the sale unlike eBay where you have to trust seller ratings that may or may not be accurate.

As far as dealing with the phone you have now:

1) The keypad lock on the outside of this device is meant to control the touch sensitive screen that controls the media/mp3 player. Since the phone is a flip, you shouldn't techincally be able to press the other keys while the phone is in your pocket. [Assuming you have the phone closed]

2) Document just about every problem you have with the phone and speak politely with customer care at Verizon. You aren't being a nag - you are paying for a service each month that you are not able to [happily] use so you might as well let someone know what is going on. I got replacement phones and batteries for my trouble. Eventually that resulted in the next day delivery of a brand new phone.

3) Get the phone looked at by a local Verizon store tech; maybe you have a defective phone? The guy in the store is going to have a better shot at troubleshooting the phone versus a call center employee who must ask you to dial *228 and remove the battery and check the moisture sticker.
