Default Mobile Web doesn't open HTTP on non-80 ports

So, I am trying to use the browser built into my verizonewireless phone, and I am unable to open a an HTTP URL that is using something other than port 80. For example:

http://<someserver>:81/index.html

Is this a limitation of the browser, WAP, of the Proxy server that Verizon is using? Any ideas?

Most likely a combination of the three. Sounds like you're doing this on a regular phone and not on a smartphone with an actual HTML browser. There are always limitations on WAP sites (and Verizon is notorious for locking access on some of their services, and this could be one of them).

keep in mind that Verizon and Sprint and every other wireless carrier will forward data through a proxy on the WAP connections and port porwarding might not be an option
