Default Need a phone to work with gotomypc.com

Complete PDA/Smart phone NOOB here.

I need to buy a Verizon phone to access my home computer through a service such as gotomypc.com or logmein.com. From what I can gather, these services require your phone to be:

1. Touch screen enabled
2. Run Windows Mobile 6.0 or higher

This narrows my phone choices down to the 3 most expensive Smartphones, ie:

-Verizon Wireless XV6900

-Samsung SCH-i760

-Verizon Wireless XV6800

Assuming cost was not an issue, can anyone confirm that I am on the right track with my search and assumptions above? Is there anything else I should be aware of? Any good or bad comments about the phones listed above?

Thank you!

Here is another NOOB question. Can I play files from iTunes on any PDA/Smart Phone that is not an iPod?

well keep in mind that you will need unlimited data and if you plan on using this a lot you might go over your cap regularly and get yourself terminated for too much data use....

as for the iTunes thing you wont be able to put those files on because they're in the iTunes formats usually but you can always buy software online that will convert it to MP3 format to work on your phone.....i recommend SoundTaxi

the Platinum version is sufficient and it converts most DRM-locked music files like iTunes or Walmart.com music to unlocked MP3 format

Yes you are on the right track, but you will have to get the "Unlimited" data plan. For what you want to do will use up data more than the pay-per-use or 10MB plans they have. Consider either the XV6800 or XV6900 over the Samsung. Even though I'm NOT a fan of Samsung, I still wouldn't recommend the SCH-i760 because of poor reviews I've read about it. Check out reviews of all the phones before you decide.

Yes, as long as the tracks you want to add to the phone were not bought from the iTunes store. If they are, they are most likely locked to iTunes and iPods. They are DRM tracks. If you want to put on music you added to iTunes from your CD collection, you will be fine. They are not locked.

Only songs purchased from the iTunes store (most songs as now some are no longer DRM protected) are locked from being played on anything but an Apple-related MP3 player. If he wants song he added from his own CD collection, he'll be fine. Those songs are not DRM protected, even if they are AAC formated files (which take up half the space of MP3 files, BTW).

yes but thats not what he cares about.....he just wants to know if the music he downloads on iTunes will work.........

although if he's just talking about his iTunes library in general do ripped music files get converted to AAC or do they stay MP3?

What you're saying doesn't make any sense. He didn't specify whether he was talking about iTunes store purchases or iTunes itself. There has to be a clear distinction made when answering this question, because there's more to it than you think. Do you have or ever used iTunes? If you have, you would know most, but NOT all, iTunes store purchases are DRM-protected, not anything else he adds any other way. Be careful with assumptions.

By default AAC is the format ripped music is saved as. There is a choice to use other formats, but the user has to select it through the Preferences option. AAC has great sound quality, and the files themselves are a manageable size (usually equal minutes to size ratio), versus MP3 which is twice the size versus minutes (4 minutes = 8MB). It can make a big difference if someone has a large music collection.

i use iTunes to download my music but i unlock it with Soundtaxi and do all my music through Windows Media Player because that's what i'm used to..

but i seem to remember reading that if you already have MP3s on your computer and you add iTunes and load them into your library that you can opt to have the whole library converted to AAC when its added.....

and in the end it doesnt matter if he can play them but rather which ones he can play. and its no longer an iTunes thing

and why would iTunes only lock some of their songs but not all???
