Pay-per-text is the option included with Basic plans, family or individual. You would need either the Family Select or Premium plan to have included texts.

Check out the Verizon site. It clearly details this.

Or pay for a messaging plan... IN messaging is only available for packs $10 and up per line. I have the Basic nationwide plan as well and only pay per text is included. Like Mike said, you will have to add a message plan or switch to a premium or select plan. All Nationwide plans include IN calling, so no worries here.

yes you seem to understand well. m2m texting costs extra. as well as unlim text to anyone. thats what they are describing.

goto Verizon.com for clarification IMO.

Basic Nationwide=Pay Per Text/Picture/Video Messaging
Select Nationwide=Unlimited Text/Picture/Video Messaging to any carrier

On the Basic Nationwide you can add an add on for messaging.
Pay Per Message Sent/Received ($.20 Text, $.25 Video/Picture)
250 messages $5.00/month
500 messages PLUS Unlimited IN Messaging $10.00/month
1500 messages PLUS Unlimited IN Messaging $15.00/month
5000 messages PLUS Unlimited IN Messaging $20.00/month

What's so difficult to understand about this? Basic plans are just that. What would mobile to mobile have to do with texting? Texting is completely separate. NONE of the basic plans have texts included with them. You would have to get an add-on plan for texts.

Select or Premium plans include texts. Once again, check Verizon's website. It can't be any clearer.

Some carriers, particularly in Europe equate a text message with 1 minute of usage. So if you had unlimited M2M, you'd have unlimited text M2M. Could be confusing if you were coming from that type of pricing structure.

I will tell what happened to me, we have a basic family plan w/ 2100 min. My work required me to take pics of in store displays. At first I was okay with the .25 per message but one month I ran a large amount without realizing it. Verizon automatically added the 250 pic / $5 messaging to my Fam plan for my phone. They sent me a text message notifying me. At first I was upset that they did that and was going to cancel it. I ended up on a retail team that texts rather than voice mails so I kept it. I am glad Verizon did that saving me money in the long run.

basically the old grandfathered plans such as the one you have now don't permit for an unlimited texting plan......you can get a limited messaging package on this plan however and most of those include the unlimited IN messaging........what they're trying to explain is that if you wanted true and complete unlimited text messaging you would have to switch to one of their current plans......

The Nationwide plans are not grandfathered plans. There are three tiers for the Nationwide plans: Basic, Select, and Premium. The Basic plan has only Pay Per Use Messaging, the Op can either stick with that or get a messaging plan. The Select plan has unlimited messaging. Premium plans have unlimited data and messaging.

The America's Choice I and II plans are the grandfathered plans. The AC2 plans were also tiered into basic, premium, and Select.

The main difference between AC I/II and Nationwide is the way data is charged. The AC plans charged airtime minutes unless s data plan was selected and the Nationwide plans charge $2/MB unless a data plan is selected.
