I have a Samsung Model SCH-870

The message says "Insufficient memory for this operation"

I am trying to get airline boarding pass confirmation using my Samsung Model SCH-870. The message on my cell screen states 'Insufficient memory for this operation".

Are there any Verizon pocket (regular size) cell phones with more memory? I do not want a larger cell phone - the ones with keyboards - as too large for me. Any Verizon phones same size as Samsung SCH-870 with more memory? Can I add 'memory' to my present phone?

Any simple solutions?

First things first, your phone does not have an external memory slot, so no, you cannot add more memory. Also, what you are trying to do, accessing your airline boarding pass via mobile web, is not available on your phone. Your phone has simple mobile web, not a web browser. These are two very different things.

You would need a smartphone or a regular phone with an HTML browser in order to do the boarding pass thing and other more complex web-based options.

OK, for the second time, you need a phone with either an HTML browser or Mobile IE. This means either smartphones, the Voyager, or the Glyde. The only flip smartphone is the PN-820. Satisfied now?

You could have figured this out for yourself with the information provided in a previous post.

I sincerely thank you for taking the time to respond. You see, I am not a Verizon customer. I joined the board to seek information for a friend. Yes, he has a computer. Yes, he could have joined this excellent board and asked the question himself. As I stated, he is a Verizon customer. He went to one department store - up to one Verizon counter/kiosk and asked one 19 year old sales person about this and received the answer: "No". No such phone exists except for the Blackberry or clones of such - the larger cell phones.

The age divide. Both he and I are of the AARP generation. I have found many of my generation - we came late to computers - have no appreciation for web boards such as this fine board. I am a member of boards for my truck, my cars, and my travels - vacations. I obtain a wealth of information from boards and the great people/members of boards such as this. Some of my peers scoff at boards such as this - and I don't know if it is because they are technologically challenged, or dumb, or just plain lazy - or a combination of all.

I do appreciate your response. I did do a Google search but only came up with a bunch of the larger Verizon cell phones. And since you have given me the number PN-820, I have found that on the Verizon website.

My apologies if I came off a little direct. There are times new people join this board and word responses in what can be considered as a little rude, unintentional or not. Because what you were asking is a little more complicated than you might realize, I answered the first time with information that was relevant based on what you originally posted.

Your later reply came across a little obnoxious because it was as if I didn't answer it the way you wanted. This was my perception, of course, but I've been on this board long enough to understand forum etiquette. Wording, especially on boards like this, can come across the wrong way sometimes just by the words used, expressive grammar (? or !), and tone.

Now as far as what you originally asked, be forewarned that in order to use the web browser on the PN-820 will require a data plan of some sort, otherwise you'll be paying $1.99 for each megabyte of data used. This can get VERY expensive. Also, the airline must have compatibility for this ticket-less transaction on their site. Not all of them do. Service quality, location, and network coverage can also play a factor.

Since you stated you are a novice to this, I recommend asking Verizon LOTS of questions before you commit to anything. Make sure you completely understand what you are doing before you commit to a wireless plan. This goes whether you end up with Verizon or not. Even to do the simple process you were asking about comes with some strings attached. Just keep this in mind and you should be able to do what you wanted without any surprises.

I also am a member of the AARP. I had a PN-820 and found it to be the worse phone I've ever had. I just got a new Palm Centro from Verizon. It is very small and has a keyboard. You might want to take a look at it. I'm not for sure it will do what you want to do, I'm sure others will respond to that aspect.

I'm not surprised the PN-820 wasn't that good of a phone. I haven't heard anything good about Pantech phones.

The Palm Centro looks excellent.


Old habits die hard. I think my Verizon friend still wants the smaller flip/folding phone as he puts in pocket.

He likes to check his stock quotes multiple times a day. He can do this with his present phone. It is the rare times when he wants to obtain his seat assignment on Southwest when he is away from his computer.

My guess is, is that at some point he will end up with something like the Palm Centro, but just a guess. For now, at least, he is sticking with his flip/folding smaller phone.

He has viewed all the Verizon phones at the Verizon booth/kiosk. Even the sliding ones are too big for him [i]today[i].
