I live in California and Vancouver, need two lines/phones, basic service. I have never heard of Alltel but the forums seem positive. The plans are similar other than no Mexico at Verizon and no Canada m2m at Alltel. I haven't found info on a two line plan at Alltel. Jay from the international forum preferred Alltel but didn't say why. I can't see a downside to not having a local number if there is no roaming. Anything big I'm missing? Are the phones better at one than the other? I'm leaning toward Verizon only because I'm familiar with the service and there are retail stores in my town.

Alltel serves a few California counties along the CA/NV border (and many more on the NV side), which is why you likely hadn't noticed them before. I'd prefer to chose service from someone whose stores are near where I live and work. COtech

You might also want to consider some of the GSM carriers as well, like T-Mobile or AT&T. They might have plans that would work for you.

The no roaming/no long distance service in Canada is only offered by Alltel and Verizon at this time, at least from my research. Please let me know if there are other options I'm missing. Thx
