Default activating a friends phone

My friend just got a new phone for his b-day and gave me his old but still better than mine phone...and if i went to verizon trying to activate my info and account from my phone to the one he gave me; would they give me problems and tell me that "it was stolen or some b.s like that" ...if they do, do that; is there something to say to get out of it (like i got it off ebay or something) ???

thanks

You can log into 'My Account' on the VZW site.... click on the 'activate phone' link there. If the site wont let you activate, you can call customer service. As long as the phone you are trying to activate is not reported as stolen or tied to a delinquent account, all should be well.

If the phone is stolen or tied to a delinquent account, you're just stuck since VZW will not activate the device.

Just as Quint said, try activating it online, which should work. If it doesn't call CS and they will activate it without a problem unless it was reported stolen.
