Default Using a phone that was lost

I am wondering what I can do with a phone i thought was lost that was returned. I took a trip to california almost six months ago and lost my phone, a treo 650. I came home, reported it lost, paid my deductible, got a new 650. Low and behold, a friend calls me last week, and during a move, found my phone. Now I had since gotten rid of the new treo and picked up a different phone, but was missing the 650. I don't want to pay to have something shipped out here if I can't use it. So, my question is, if I pay to have her ship it back here, can I get the treo turned back on, or should I tell her to re-lose it?

You should call Asurion's CSD at # 1-888-881-2622, and inform them that a phone that was reported lost by you has now been found. They will instruct you on what to do with the phone. Once a replacement handset has been issued, the old handset then becomes the property of the insurance company.

Is there a way in which to reactivate the lost phone under a new account without alerting Asurion? I feel that it's such a rip-off for Asurion to charge such a steep deductible and when the lost phone is recovered that it is their "property". Shouldn't it be your property?

Uhhhh.... no? You don't get the best of both worlds. If you crash your car and your insurance totals it, do you get to keep the totaled car? No, because the insurance company paid you for it and they're allowed to do with it whatever they see fit in an attempt to recoup some of the expenses incurred.

Hmmm.... where I come from you're given first chance to purchase the totaled vehicle but it's not given to you.

Exactly, a totaled vehicle still has value. The insurance companies auction off the totaled vehicles off to used auto parts dealers, and use that money to partially recover the money they paid on the claims. I have heard of some instances where the insurance company told people they can keep the totaled vehicle, but that was only in the case of vehicles that had a low value. If you were driving a 10 year old honda civic they would probably tell you could keep the car, because the amount of money they would get auctioning it off would be less than their cost of towing and auctioning it. On the other hand if you were driving a $70,000 Mercedes you better believe they are going to want that car. What may be offered to you is that they pay you $70,000 for the car, and offer to sell it back to you for $20,000, but they don't just let you keep the car under normal circumstances.
