Default San Diego County Customers Can Make More Calls

Press Release Source: Verizon Wireless

San Diego County Customers Can Make More Calls
Wednesday September 19, 10:12 am ET
Verizon Wireless Adds New Cell Sites Throughout the County

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A teenager needs a ride home from summer camp. A grandfather wants to wish his grandson a happy birthday. A first responder must text message her entire team. Whatever people consider urgent, they can depend on the most reliable national wireless network thanks to Verizon Wireless.
Verizon Wireless customers in San Diego County are now experiencing increased coverage thanks to six new cell sites:

Coronado - Along Silver Strand, the naval amphibious base and the southern edge of Coronado
Escondido - Along El Norte Parkway and surrounding area in north eastern Escondido
La Jolla - Along Cardeno Drive on Soledad Mountain
Pine Valley - Along Interstate 8
San Diego - Improved service along Rosecrans Avenue.
"Our local expansion is just another way of ensuring that Verizon Wireless' network continues to support our leadership in customer loyalty,*" said John Palmer, regional president of Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless is the only major carrier with a 30-day network test drive pledge that pays for calls if a customer isn't satisfied and switches to another carrier. The company has invested more than $40 billion in its wireless network over the past seven years. Of that amount, more than $4 billion has been invested in California, helping Verizon Wireless stay ahead of the growing demand for its services and add new capabilities, like Mobile TV.

There are more than 2,000 Verizon Wireless stores nationwide, including those at Circuit City. For more information about Test Drive from Verizon Wireless or any of our products and services, visit a Verizon Wireless Communications Store, call 1-800-2 JOIN IN or go to Cell Phones, Cell Phone Plans, Cell Phone Accessories - Verizon Wireless.

* Loyalty claims based upon publicly available churn (customer turnover) figures.

Nice to hear about those additions. I have never had any issues in Coronado though so this is nice.

OK, now that they've worked on San Diego, they need to do something about L.A.

Service has been marginal lately and I'm really surprised. It's always been strong, but I have yet to see a full signal on my phone.

I was in Downtown L.A., Echo Park, Highland Park, and Pasadena on Tuesday. Service was passable at best. T-Mobile, on the other hand, was strong in these areas.

What gives Verizon?

Wait, you were travelling in all of those areas and never had a full signal? That's quite surprising and almost impossible as I have been to some of those areas and remember perfect signals...

Not lately, and no one was more surprised than me. I couldn't believe it. It's been like this everywhere I've been lately in the Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, and Northeast Los Angeles. Something is up with their signal quality.

Very interesting. Next time I talk to my family/friends down there I will see if they have noticed anything. I wonder what's going on...maybe the network is getting overloaded.

I'm sure there are areas where there is full signal, but every time I checked my phone to see how signal strength was it was always 2 to 3 bars (on a 4 bar phone), never full signal. I've also been experiencing an upswing in dropped calls at home lately, something uncharacteristic for Verizon, in my experience over the years.

That's because Verizon has been lagging behind the other carriers for improvements for years now here in the LA/OC market! I've been saying this for a long time but hardly anyone will believe me.

Verizon releases all of these press releases about improved coverage but yet I never see any new antennas from them. So not sure how they are making improvements unless they are tweaking exisiting sites or something along those lines. Plus with all the new users they keep picking up it wouldn't suprise me if capacity could be an issue with them soon.

Capacity won't be an issue with them unless they refuse to install the equipment at the sites. Their own backhaul network is far from running at max capacity.

Larry, I believe you NOW!!! It really hasn't become an issue until the last several months.

Well if they'nre not keeping up with the other carriers over a period of years it will eventually catch up to them. Being a tower hunting maniac I always keep a note of any and all new sites that go up in this area and Verizon has been adding the fewest by far over the past 3 or 4 years. T-Mobile and of course Metro are on fire right now with their improvements. Sprint was the leader for the past year or so but has slowed down some because they've finished most of the synergy sites already and are ahead of the competition in many areas. I also don't see too many AT&T improvements happening either.
