Default Verizon lauches new LG 8350 to replace 8300

LG’s hot $50 clamshell gets upgrade at VZW

Verizon Wireless launched the LG VX8350, the heir apparent to the VX8300, the second-hottest selling handset in the United States, according to Strategy Analytics data.

The phone trailed only Motorola Inc.'s Razr in terms of popularity.

In keeping with LG Electronics Co. Ltd.’s stated strategy of moving its end-users up-market, the VX8350 begins life at the carrier at $80 with a two-year contract. Its predecessor apparently started and ended its product cycle at $50.

It was not immediately apparent what functional upgrades LG may have made to the handset, but the VX8350 takes a sleeker external design path with no external antenna, a more subtle hinge and discrete, external music-control buttons.

The new handset is CDMA2000 1x EV-DO and offers access to the usual bevy of Verizon-branded content, including Vcast music and video, VZ Navigator and messaging options.

I went out of my way to get the 8300 over the 8350.

The 8350's standby battery life is much worse, they dropped the camera phone flash and OLED display got replaced with standard LCD.

After I got over the looks of the phone. If it was almost the same as the 8300 then I think I would go for it because it would be nice to have no antenna and have it a tid bit slimmer.
