I have a Blackberry 8830, which I love, and Sprint service, which I loathe. I can get the MSL code for the phone easily, and I'm desperately hoping that it will be not too much harder to switch the phone over to a Verizon account. The frequencies are the same of course, and I'm hoping to be able to get out of buying yet another Blackberry. Can anyone give me specific instructions?

I think it will be difficult to do. Doesn't the sprint version have more features/ software in the rom than the verizon version?

I don't care about the GPS not working, which I think is the only main difference.

The likelihood of you being able to move your Sprint BB 8830 to Verizon is slim to none because of Verizon's crackdown on activating phones they do not sell themselves. Even though Verizon carries a version of the BB 8830, your phone has "Sprint" on it. They may not be able to put it in their system. You might want to go to a Verizon store (corporate, NOT 3rd party) and see if they can add it to their system. Whether they will or not is a crap shoot unfortunately.

You will have a very hard time switching the phone to Verizon. It is unfortunate but chances are you have to sell the phone on eBay and then sign up for Verizon and get the 8830 from them. If the problem is a coverage issue you can set the phone to roam only. I don't think you will like the Verizon 8830 as much as the Sprint version. Good luck. |
