Default Extended Network and LG's

OK I'm new to this forum but I wanted to post this. I took what I learned in this forum and others to finally get it to work. My wife and son have a K1m KRZR and V3m RZR respectively. They never have problems with service as they always have very good Extended Net service. I have an LG 8300 and it is always holding on to a little shred of Verizon with no bars. Of course no one can call , and I can't call out. I usually have to hold it, with my finger over the ant. to get it to switch over. Which btw is full signal Extended. Another thing that is frustrating is, I have to keep it on the charger while at home or it will completely drain.

I have talked to several different techs at various stores and their ideas were trash. So i have fought this for over a year now (because I really like the phone) ,anyway I've figured it out.

I did the menu+0+000000, Network select, Mode pref, 1X only, also Band pref, cell only. Automatic B also (but I dont think this is part of it).

I'm so used to doing this that I can do it very quickly. I have excellent verizon service at work ,so I switch back and forth. Now it stays Extended all the time and my batt stays full. Sorry so long but I thought I could help somebody.

Could I please have some assistance with this? I've tried the Menu thing but on my VX8600 it's not working? I get terrible signal in my house, but when my phone goes into Extended Network it's perfect and I have the same problem he does, and it doesn't stay very long. I'd looooooove to switch back and forth. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Brittney

The way the Original poster described should work on your phone as well. When you go into the menu just hit the 0 button and it'll ask for a password, then hit 0 six times, and follow his instructions.

I'm not sure of a reason why it wouldn't work for you.

Welcome to WA. If you have a new 8600 then the firmware on it is different and so is the code. This is how you do it:

From the standby screen press ##77647268600 SEND (##Program8600 SEND), and it will take the same screen as MENU 0 000000 did in the old ones.

Hope this helps.

So is it US Cellular your phone runs off of when you are on extended network? Make sure to double check with a field test on your phone to see what SID you are on when you get on that.

On an LG, the easiest thing to do is probably mark 506 as forbidden or 32 as preferred if you can easily find that option which most LGs have in that same menu.

Just a word of advice though, figuring out how to program a phone and stick with Verizon is one option. However, the far simpler option is just to switch to the provider that has good coverage in your area if you're still in your trial period or not under contract. Verizon generally gives fewer minutes for the price, so paying Verizon's prices to use another's network is just something that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless the Verizon unlimited Mobile-to-Mobile really works out well for you or you want one of Verizon's phones. USCC does have free incoming calls and it sounds like they've made a better investment in your area. A lot of people seem to get into this situation because with all Verizon's advertising they believe the Verizon network to be superior, but that's really not the case in many areas, it's just advertising. Other common extended network providers are Alltel, which offers more minutes and My Circle, and Sprint, which has nights at 7. So you get more out of the plan and don't even have to worry about programming your phone every night when you get in an extended area where data is restricted and more problems generally arise on roaming networks anyway.

Here is one way of doing it without changing SIDs.

1) ##77647268600 SEND
2) Service code: 0 0 0 0 0 0
3) Hit #3 for Network Select
4) Hit #2 for Band Preference (Default is set for #1=Any)
5) Try #2 for Cell only (850Mhz), or #3 PCS only (1900 Mhz) until your handset displays "Extended Network".

In my area USCC is on 850 MHz, so I choose "cell only"

Hope this helps.
